    Strings for Axis Super Sport

    Hey,

Can anyone recommend a set of strings that works well with the ASS maple/hardtail/HB?

I'm currently using the standard D'Addario strings and want to try out something new. What about the Ernie Ball strings? Is there really a difference going up to more expensive brands like Elixir?

    Thanks in advance,
    Sebastian

I use Regular Slinky's 10's on all my electric guitars... They are the best for me, although I am thinking of maybe chaging to 11's...

It's basically a personal taste... Try some different gauges to see what you like best... I'm sure you can find your ideal type of string within the EB range...

My ASS is fiercely running on 10/46er EB Slinkys. Great sound and playability !

...tried them D'Addarios once - weren't my cup of tea...

Ernie Ball's the way to go.

Good question. I'm using Super Slinkys (009's) on all of my guitars, save for the tele, which I string with 010's. Do any of you notice more fret wear from the Super Slinkys compared to the regular Slinkys?

Should this thread be in the "strings" section?

I also use slinky 10's on my ASS. It had 9's before but I do play chords and am not happy when I press on a D real hard and end up with an E.

    Strings for Super Sport?

Regular Slinky's are good, and have had good results with both DR 10-46s and GHS Boomer 10-46s.

Have only tried Elixirs on my ol' 52 reissue .... and still ain't sure about tryin' them again .... took away some of the ice-pick in-the-head sensation, but also seemed to neutralize some of the other tonalities that made it a favorite player of mine for so long .... good guitar, but not the right strings .... put the EB Regular Slinky's on it and it was like the mojo returned.

    cheers always, eh

I'm a huge fan of the RPS sets. I think that the Axis SS came with RPS 9-42's. I like the Hybrid RPS set. (Low strings from a set of 10-46's and high strings from a set of 9-42's)
Currently modding the heck out of a SBMM SILO30

For the past 10 years I've never used anything but Ernie Ball Super Super Slinky and Regular Slinkys. My fixed bridges get the regular and trem guitars get the super slinkys.

    Sebastian,

I have a maple/hardtail/humbucker ASS, too. I use DR Pure Blues 9-42. My apologies to the most loyal here. At least the guitar is EB, right?

Best strings for the Axis Super Sport? Who better than EBMM and EVH to trust when making that call? It has to be Ernie Ball super slinkys. The guitar comes with RPS 9s for a reason eh.

Yup, I agree. I was using DaDarrio 9-42 Half rounds on my gear, liked the EB 9-42's that came on the guitar. Recently swapped them out for the Half Rounds, bleeehh, I am going to the music store today to get a set of EB's, and then ordering a 10 pack from MF.

I recommend our new Coated Electric Slinkys. Not only are they reinforced with titanium (how's that for reinforcement!?!?) they are also coated to prevent decay and corrosion. I love them. They keep that vibrant "new string sound" a lot longer than normal strings but they maintain the feel of normal strings. Check em out, I think you'll like them!

I like the D Addario cl 9.5 - 42 on my axis ss/hh. I also like the EB hybrid 9- 46.. But remember, if you go to a thicker gauge string set, you will have to back file the nut slots.. And there ain't no going back. The 9.5 -- 42 set works nicely, with no adjustments, and I wish EB had a set like this..

You wouldn't need to file the nut if you were just bumping up from 9-42 to 10-46...

Small amount of nut lube or graphite and your laughing.
