Drop tuning device?

Can anyone identify what this device is on this Petrucci? I assume its some sort of drop-d tuning device?

Yep, it instantly drops the low E to D.

This isn't my guitar, just saw the pic online and wondered what the device was.

Yes, which is the only thing that makes me hesitant about getting one, though I may just do it anyway....

That would jack up the floating equilibrium too. If you're going to do that you'll want to somehow block the bridge either with a Tremel-No or the tried and true hardwood block (TM).

That mod is just gonna mess up your tuning.

I was thinking the same. Stick to hardtails for gadgets like these.
