Anyway, there is a difference between an ASS and Axis even though the pickups are the same. Tim and I suspect it has to do with the extra wires and all of that jazz.
Hope you don't mind if I stick my face in on the pics, it's the best of the guitar I have. Also yeah I bought it off ebay Radrock and like I said everything on it is superb including the setup. Gigged it lastnight and there is a definate issue with the attack being fizzy and undefined and on the low notes (not attributable to my amp as I've tried it with many other guitars). The latter stages of the note are ok though, best I can liken it to is a mic that's peaking. It's very subtle and sometimes I think I'm just being picky but lastnight definately highlighted it for me.

Everything looks stock, but I'm just about to open up the rear cavity to have a peep at the stuff in there. Could the mildew problem have affected the electronics in this way? (see my other old post on page 1)

OK Ive stayed out until now

First off Fuzz..Thanks for all of your support

    NOw get to the meat.....

I hate Customer service threads. Have I said that before?

I also think that as already agreed by the involved parites that in frustration the original post could have been more diplomatic.

The rest is just getting funny. Tone your response doesnt fly here.....

I also love the people who can post smileys backing up someone who loves to point out that this is a biased group of diehards......Kung fu what do you expect? Maybe instead of the knee jerk ridiculing the obvious ....maybe all threads that are attacking or lacking respect get jumped on?

I can handle it if we make a mistake and truly regret it. The whole team busts its ass to fix mistakes when we make them. We also fix things all day long that arent our fault as the customer being happy with our products is important.

Now the rub....it is a used instrument.....the player is a loyal ebmm user and isnt happy.....Tommy and Beej are the least likely to get in a fight and happen to be the ones that I have no problem dispensing advice as they are very capable...especially Tommy. All the good advice is like a giant fart.....We need to see the guitar and find out if it has been modified or out of spec somehow...If after that the guitar doesnt suit him then Im sure it will make someone else happy.

    Fuzz,

I can't tell for sure whether that is my previous guitar or not from the pics. It sure looks like it, but I'm just not sure. PM me the serial number and it might ring a bell. I sold it I'm guessing 8 months ago, if you bought it recently, it must have been from someone else.

Keep in mind, it is a 98 or 99 if I remember correctly. Mine did have a little rust or wear in places, but the factory set it up and never said anything about bad wiring. Email me the SN and we'll see.

Just to clarify what BP is saying, this is more of a customer service issue than a forum thing, but I stand by my good Ebay feedback. IF this was my guitar AND you bought it directly from me, then we'll go from there.

Jack, you bought the Spaceball 3000 from me without playing it first. I hope you were happy with that how that turned out.
Wires and the tone pot are the main differences, and the height of the bridge pickup too!

Radrock - did you get my PM? The 2nd one?

Actually I bought it from you hahaha. Jack lives a town over, and he DID play it before buying. His reputation is saved! I'm working on getting it back now....

Yep, had to clear some space in the PM box. All these cute redheads PM'ing me for autographs.

Anyway. Yep that was my guitar and it was sold to the UK. You told me you bought it from someone there and that's correct. I guess he wasn't feeling it, although he might have made a profit off of it. He got it from me at a steal.

Sorry guys, I got other PM's to read. I didn't know the inbox could fill.

    Here's my 2 cents...

I'm one of those "I don't tinker with them" kind of guys. I never swap out pickups, I don't try to "re-engineer" something that was designed a certain way by experts. I try to test drive (play through an amp) in-person any guitar I buy. I have however (over time) bought about a dozen guitars over the Internet, but none of them are in my current stash. The dozen or more keepers I have are the result of sitting down with each one before purchase and seeing if they have the kind of soul inside that I am looking for.

I think I have some excellent instruments accumulated and I would not want to sell or lose any of my current harem. This confidence in owenrship came from careful selection and test drive prior to final sale. Anymore, and after ample experience buying sound-unheard-neck-unplayed prior to sale, today I swear by the test drive. I find more personal satisfaction and owner confidence by playing them first. If the guitar doesn't have the tone or (I like to call it) "soul" I'm looking for, there are always thousands more to choose from on planet Earth.

No sense in hacking up a perfectly good guitar just becuse my ears don't like what it is doing. If my ears had been used to help choose the thing in the first place, they would need to be pleased first before handing out the big bucks of my hard-earned cash. It also does not make any sense to me to carve up, re-solder, or tinker away (meanwhile dumping even more money down the tube) into a guitar I don't like.

Its much easier to sell it and resort to being more careful on the next purchase. In that way you assume responsibility for allowing guitars with or without preferred tones into your livingroom.

Perhaps the guitar is out of tolerance in some way. Since its a used instrument, who knows where she has been and in who's arms she's been entrusted for service until today. Best tip here would be to get it into the hands of a MusicMan professional, and have them do a little "doctor's appointment" with her (so to speak). Let them give her a check-up and see if someone has twiddled or tinkered with her perfection after the factory.

Then, if she isn't twiddled... kindly set her back into the used market and look for something else that will make your ears happy.

I may be a purest, but please don't hack her up with new pickups. That's not the answer you're looking for. Its a great way to waste even more money on something you already don't like. And it does not gaurentee results. And you may just be screwing up a tone someone else's ear would love to own...

It may be that we are all as individual as fingerprints, and I could testify that every guitar I have ever played in my 33 years of guitaring, has had its own unique soul and sonic personality, regardless of make or model or manufacturer. No two guitars are the same. We find consumer confidence in excellent, beyond freaking great builders like Ernie Ball MusicMan, but it doesn't mean every single guitar they make fits every single human being on Earth equally.

    Perhaps that was 5 cents..................

What, you think if I lived anywhere near a dealer that stocked EBMM I'd be moaning about second hand issues?

Of course you're right Jam, if fact every time a Musicman comes through the door of the dealer in the next town (Dundee, Scotland) either me or mojosteve tries it and usually buys it. But I'll tell you right now that's about once every 8 months if we're lucky. The manager phones steve straight away.

Some of us just have to take the chance if we want, say, a purple ass in particular.

As far as twiddling goes you've got a point. Like I said earlier in the thread, changing the pups is a last resort as I've played enough axis' (bought new) to know they are a fine pair.

I suppose I just don't know any Musicman proffesionals in Scotland. If anyone does, kindly PM me their details ands that's what I'll do.

True - if I could just go downtown to the stores and "try" an EBMM guitar, I'd surely do it. However, that is just a pipe dream for me. The closest EBMM dealer is 250 miles away. Can't just pop in the car and go there at the drop of a dime. Plus, some of us have other obligations, like taking care of people that need us. People that cannot travel because of illness.

So, although it sounds nice, it isn't the reality for many EBMM guitar players.

I'l have to make do with purchase prior to play.
