To Change or Not To Change... Another Pickup Thread

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Silo Special. Best playing most versatile guitar on the planet. Thing is I just want a little more something out of the bridge Humbucker. The Problem is that I have another guitar with the Steve Morse Bridge Hummy in it, and that thing just screams. I mean, it'll tear your head off.

Now, I don't want to go that high output on it, I just want a little bit more oomph and saturation. I also don't necessarily want a totally different tone, either. Wondering what everyone has changed their Bridge Humbuckers to in their Silo specs. I'm kinda tossing between a the AT-1 Andy Timmons and the Breed Bridge or Neck. Has anyone tried the Breed Neck in the bridge position of an Alder Body guitar?

My Silo Spec has a Maple Board, btw.

    hey man,

I changed mine (bridge of a regular silo maple board) to a bareknuckle rebel yell its a mid output pickup with a kind of hot rock voicing i suppose, really clear and it does Scream when asked, it was expensive though but i couldnt be happier. check em out.

I adore BK pickups I have a Sub 1 guitar with a mississippi queen in the neck it WAS the best £90 I have ever spent! Then I put a Bulldog pickup in the bridge and that was even better!

Be sure to check out the DiMarzio "Norton"!! Excellent mid/high power with excellent gain, bite, punch, drive, harmonics and STILL remains colorful!!

And, boy have I done countless side by side pickup comparisons throughout the years. LOL,LOL,LOL

On my next Silo Spec that's what I'm droppin' in, I also have it as an alternate pickup with my Axis.

    Hi,

I had a S(eymour) D(uncan) humbucker in my strats and they sounded very good.
Until I had a silo....that is a guitar of another order
With the help of the site of SD and the people of Vox Humana (a very good shop in the Netherlands), I decided to go for a SD TB11, that is a splittable humbucker.
I am in sound heaven now, halleluia! I have never had a guitar that sounds so 3D, never harsh, flubby or dul, really musical.
The single coil tap sound is very good, very usable, esp. for a humbucker.
As you may know, it is hard to discribe sound, but the tones are unbelievable: they really sing. Very smooth, but screaming if I want to.
This is by far the best guitar I have ever layed my fingers on. I always have trouble putting it down.
Mind you: my Luke is very good, But when it comes to flexibility, the palette of sounds, the possibilities I have, the singing tones, the 3D character, nothing beats this guitar.
My single coils are from 'Levinson', which I got when doing a guitar job on a Blade for someone. They suit the SD as a perfect match.
When you would be living in the neighbourhood, I would like to invite you and listen and try it for yourself.
Btw., people told me that the TB11 was the pu EvH was using in his first 'hom-made' guitars...

    Good luck.
