Early [recessed neck plate] Luke 2 Colours...

Were the earlier Luke 2 [vintage trem] models with a recessed neck plate available in any other colour than the Luke Blue?

I'd love to pick up another one someday, but in a different colour if they exist?

Was this the only difference? I wouldn't bother is there was no tonal change.
    The plate looks cool though

I thought the first badge of the Luke II had the recessed neckplate, and they were only available in Luke Blue and black.

as nice a recessed neck plate concept, who really cares about that

You should not refrain yourself from a purchase in a color you like just because of that, unless you are looking only for older Luke model

I agree with three... Of my Balls only the Green Axis doesn't have a recessed neck plate. If I remember it was late 99 or early 2000 that they stopped doing the recessed neck plate and to tell the truth I can't really tell the difference. I have heard people claim that the quality, tone or the "whatever" is better on the early ones with the recessed neck plate and I think they are all blowing smoke. Each piece of wood, pickup tuner and "whatever" is all different and will sound and feel slightly different. Think about it, when buying your last guitar how long did you torture the poor guy at the shop by playing the same Winger lick on every guitar... especially when they all looked the same. my GF hates this, but then again its the same thing when we go to the mall and she tries on 100 of the same shirt to see which one fits the best. So if I were you, I would just go to my local dealer and start the torture process from there.

Winger lick? Speak for yourself. When I try guitars in a shop it's Lionel Richie tunes all the way!

For me the recessed plate is a little detail that I've grown to prefer, just because. Not for any tonal difference but more of a 'no one else paid attention like EBMM did'. Obviously overtightening of screws and the emergence of stress cracks resulted in manufacturing changes but it's one of those things that makes a difference to me.

Good to know there's a black version from the factory though... I'll have to get looking for one to join my Luke Blue one.

I do like the older models with recessed plates, now if I could find a black Luke 2 and an Axis Supersport with trem, humbuckers, maple [with lashings of birdseye / flame], natty head and a top that sucks, I'd be a happy man...

I agree, the recessed neckplate on my SS just makes me smile for the exact same reasons. It doesn't alter tone or playability, but then neither does the color, and everyone has a preference for that
