Serial # 80305 refers to a trans black EVH built on 7/26/91 and sent to Guitar Center in Chicago. Betcha it's sweet!

Though this is the guitar serial # database, we'll answer your inquiry anyway! Your SUB 5 has a build date of 8/12/04.

8/1/94 EVH Translucent Black - although they sometimes change color over the years, that was the original color of that guitar.

We show that this guitar originally was shipped to Thailand.

    All right!

So far they have found out nothing more. I'm starting to think that we might not have any more information...

I wouldn't think this would be any cause for alarm, though. It likely was as innocent as a repair technician having both guitars there on his bench and unknowingly swapping out the neck plates. Your guitar is obviously authentic, although this is a downer for collectability and resale purposes.

I will try to do more research as time permits.

Thanks for your help. By chance do you think the ship date of the Luke could be the ship date of my guitar? Could that serial number give a general idea on when the guitar shipped?

The build date of the instrument is the day it was completed at the factory, I know I usually have mine shipped out on the same day, so it's a good chance. Sometimes it takes a few days before they ship out, but yes it gives a good idea of when it left the factory - typically within a week

Andy, the serial number references a Luke in Pearl Red built on 6/7/95. It is possible that the serial numbers/neckplates could have been switched or entered incorrectly at the factory. Certainly the build date was during a period where both the EVH and the first Luke with the Floyd Rose bridge were both in production. It would be an extremely rare occurence given our extreme diligence in making sure this information was entered correctly into the master database, but it was 11 years ago, and we are only human in a computerized world, so this sort of thing can happen, I suppose. I was looking into how many trans purple EVHs were built, just to give some sort of reference point. There were a little less than 1100 made with the Floyd Rose tremolo. So I guess I'll keep looking......

    Dan
