'Lifting Shadows Off a Dream' - Split Screen Covers [Audio + Video] - DT Tribute

This was posted at the JPForum but I think it might be of interest to some of you here at EB aswell.

    Hey!

Just finished mixing the first song of the 'SPLIT SCREEN COVERS' project a few friends of mine and I are doing.

'Lifting Shadows Off a Dream' from Awake it is...

    SPLIT SCREEN COVERS

The ideia behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.
Although some friends of mine are in on this for the instrumental parts, the band won't necessarily be the same on all songs. We will have some guests from around the world hopefully, mostly on vocals.

Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.

I then put the audio all together and mix it...
Since I'm new at mixing, this has been a great exercise for me. I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and also a few techniques while I'm at it...

I'm trying to get the overall sound close to the original but I'm not killing myself ABing them... It's impossible to get it exactly right due to a number variables... When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.

After the audio track is finished I take it to Sony Vegas and start compiling the video.

This is where I'm at right now with this track... I'm hoping to finish the video by tomorrow to get it up on youtube.

In the meanwhile I'll share the mp3 for those interested.

    The Band

The band is composed of myself on guitar, my brother Felipe Campos on Bass, my good friend César Zolhof on keys, and another good friend on drums, Paulinho.

The singer on this track is a guy from Venezuela called José "Chego" Cabrices. Some of you forumers might know him from your country.
He contacted us through youtube and was interested in the project.
He recorded his parts pretty quickly and I think he has an awesome voice. Looking forward to doing other tracks with him in the future.

    JP6 in action! Yay!
Unfortunately my brother was unable to use his DD Bongo 5 on this one because it's a 6 string song. He really needs to get a Bongo 6 ASAP!

More cigarette drags by the vocalist!

EDIT: Nice high notes. Sounds fantastic there. What a difficult song for a vocalist, too.
