Some people swear that changing cables makes a huge difference, others don't.

Try it and see what your ears tell you.

on a passive circuit guitar the capacitance of the cable can make a difference. on active gear i cant hear too much difference.
i suggest you give it a try, bring out those old cables and switch over. be sure to record your performance, then switch over to the new cables.. repeat procedure.
then a/b test using this tool:

just put flats on the bongo!!
just put roundwounds on your fretless!!

    trussrod adjustment:

less relief / flatter = lower action
more relief / bow = higher action
do NOT use cheap tools to adjust with. they might break and scrape up your pressious!
also, if you are lucky enough to have a 100th namm sr4: the truss works the other way around on that one!

In the newest issue of Guitar World magazine, there's a whole article about different cables and then there's a list of a bunch of popular cable brands and how they differ from another. It's pretty interesting.

    Not at all

The differences between cables as far as sound isn't going to be drastically different from other brands. Mixing different cable brands won't harm anything.

but i do hope they make a difference. i spent 100 euros on 2 cables last time :P

but seriously, even if it's just durability, i think the spectra will outlast most cheap cables many times.

    Hi,

Cables do make a difference, esp. with passive pu's, as Mr. Musashi also stated.
I am using George L's now, after many years of struggle....You can use these cables with the George L's jacks, but I did not like them. So, I am soldering to Neutrik jacks (of course, I would almost say: Neutrik rules).
Very open, dynamic cable. Best cable for passive systems, but that is just my 2 cents...
Try some differend brands and let your ears decide.

    Good luck.

The difference was dramatic when I switched to Mogami Gold.

I starting making my own cables and never looked back. Too much marketing garbage with cables in my opinion.

I have had too much problems with George L's so i am going to wire it up with either Klotz La Grange or Mogami with Neutriks. What is the difference in gold or standard connectors? Is it worth the price-difference?

I have George L's, but they seem to be more aggravating than anything else.
