Cool EBMM players on YouTube play along to Larry Carlton backing track

Here's a few players I have not seen yet and enjoyed watching them. We have a older Floyd Silhouette first, a lady with a Carbon Blue Luke, and a JP7. The lady playing the Luke has some nice chops and cool phrasing. I enjoyed watching all 3 performances. Enjoy!

Well in order of clips, my votes are:

    1) bad
    2) better
    3) great!!

In the case of no.1 and no.2 their execution lacked expression, specially the first guy, yes they were technically gifted but the first one in particular sounded like typewriters in a newspaper office. The lady was slightly better than the first guy but you can tell that at some point she struggles to keep it all flowing.

However the young kid playing the 3rd clip, in my view had it all, his expression was more heart felt, he has some very intersting legato and he really nailed the original mood of the Larry Carlton tune. Sometimes technique doesn't necessarily mean you are god because you can tap at 220bps, if the result is not captivating to the listener at the expense of expression, all that widdley widdley is pointless.

So well done to the kid in clip no. 3 he gets my 10/10 vote

All three are good guitar players, IMO the girl on the Luke had too much distortion on her tone, but I wished I could play like one of them...

For those who dont know, that backing track was first featured on Guitarist magazine in December 1998, and had a great transcribed solo, which all 3 of those solos borrowed from. Then a few years ago it came up again on Bluesjamtracks.com, with Guthrie Goan doing a video solo, and the transcription was available. The first guy is just playing the tab from the original lesson, Guthrie's odd note choice and chromatic lines are trademark for him, but he may have overdone it slightly, but that was what the lesson was about. The 3rd guy is using a lot of licks from the later Guthrie solo, so not much of the playing is original.

Yea, I failed to mention that the first guy basically played the same exact thing as Guthrie Govan and the 3rd kid put together Marco Sfoglis improv with Guthries and made it sort of his own.

I really love Marco's phrasing and tone. If you guys have not checked it out already, go check out his solo album There's Hope.

And Guthrie's solo I find also very interesting and tasteful...to me it is not overdone at all.

I"ll try and find the original 1998 Guthrie track, its much better than the later one. That Marco one is tasty! There's hundreds on you tube, some good, most of them bad!

I find it funny how all these Larry Carlton tracks are played with so much gain, I wonder if any of them have actually heard any Carlton? None of them play with the ease and harmonic taste of Larry. I'm always of the opinion that licks dont make good solos, phrasing and melodies do.

Marco's solo was great! I really liked how the BFR JP's tone could be distinguished between the kids post above with the standard. Much thicker, tighter tone.
