    Installed bigger trem block (update)

Just put the bigger brass trem block on the Axis and I can say the guitar sustains about 4 seconds longer with the new block. I counted 7 seconds on a note on the D and G string harmonics on the 5th and 12th frets and they stayed strong for 7 to 8 seconds before and now hold easily to 12+ the harmonics and notes are sustaining stronger. I'm sure there will be disagreements but I had to give it a shot. For the $40 it costs, its a cheap improvement IMO, it tok 20 mins to install! Heres a couple pics of before and after, the new block weighs more than twice as much. I have nothing to do with the company I bought the block from I'm just passing this along.

Did you use exactly the same setup before and after? How did you measure it, what measurement tools did you use? How did you secured that you picked the string with exactly the same force?

Just wondering these 'cause I think that's really interesting subject to investigate (okay, the top looks nice too... ), and it would be nice to analyze the differences with proper measurement tools. Good topic!

I know its not a perfect way to test, I timed it using my digital clock and did each string 3 times, I picked normal before and after and I have a scale at home, the old block weighs just over 4oz. and the new one is 9oz. I have heard a lot of people that say these blocks make a HUGE difference and I was sceptical but I can say it does my a difference. HUGE??? Probably not but a big difference yes. I've already ordered another one for my other Floyd.

On another note, I have'nt touched my other guitars hardly at all since I bought this thing. I did'nt know what I was missing, its almost like they made this neck just for me!!

Have been contemplating this upgrade myself.

I have always thought the blocks that come with Floyds as standard were a joke especially considering the cost.

I have seen thicker blocks than that though but for the Axis have to order the Gotoh compatible one not the Floyd one.

Wish they would make a big ass one for the Gotoh.

There is one that I believe is thicker and longer and it covers up the area where the trem arm nut is.

That would be what I would get if it was available.

I wonder how different the designs are and if it would be possible to have one altered or perhaps drilled different to begin with, most of these companies I have seen selling them claim they manafacture them so it should not be that much of a problem I wouldn't think.

i've been meaning to do something like this for my fav Silo Spec. it already sustains amazingly, but I'd like a subtle tonal change if i can get it in brass. Where'd you get the block from?

    Silo Special?
I suspect it has the vintage trem?
Does it not already have a big ass brass block?
I know my Silhouette has a big block and ive never taken the back plate off but from what i remember seeing i assumed it was Brass?

I think the big block on the MM Vintage Trem is pretty much as good if not better than any aftermarket.

Still haven't made my mind up about these Titanium ones I have seen advertised... just doesn't sit with me... of course I know nothing really about resonance of metals.

I have heard the titanium are way better than brass but the price is too steep for me!!

The newer ones yes. But my 2000 Silo Spec has a steel block.
