Music Man Pickups?

What pickups do you prefer on your MusicMan? If stock, which ones do you really like/dislike and if not stock, what have you replaced them with? Also, please tell me your opinion on CrunchLab and LiquiFire vs. the D-Sonic for JP models! Not BFR. Thanks!

Well there are a lot of different models ... so there are going to be a lot of different options ...

Me, 99% of the time I prefer the stock p'ups. They've done a fantastic job of picking the right p'ups to suit their models. (I'll take the Morse bridge p'up any day of the week.)

I like the Silo and Axis stock pups.

The SUB bridge PU is good, but will be replaced by a DiMarzio Air Zone for more "fundamental" punch

The CrunchLab and Liquifire absolutely OWN any other pickup combo in the JP, at least to my ears.

I've got a couple of older Silo's and the stock pickups are really quite good - my white Silo is completely stock. I got the second Silo as a "mule" to try out different pickups. I wound up with the stock pickups for the neck and middle (that single coil is sweet!) and installed a Seymour Duncan (Fender) Pearly Gates Plus (a hot '59) in the bridge and it is a little more musical (sweeter harmonics) that the stock DiMarzio PAF Pro.

Summary: The design staff at EBMM does a really good job selecting the pups for their guitars. Unless there is a really special sound that you're after, you will probably find yourself putting the stockers back in.

I love the Axis/ASS pickups. I like the Silo Special single coils. The 25th pickups are great too.

Over the years I have tried many pickups from the Dimarzio line and in some of my other EBMM guitars where I have experimented with the electronics, I have gravitated toward the Dimarzio Air Zone for a bridge HB, the Air Norton for a neck HB (big surprise), and the Area 58s for single coils.

I do not play metal and favor cleaner or crunchy tones, so YMMV.

Seeing as this is probably going to end up being a metal pickup thread I'll say the Albert Lee MM90's are the best! Go twang on that you shredders.

I think it would be hard to pin it all on the pickups, since EBMM sonically matches them specifically to models. However, my favorite is still the SUB1. The Silhouette and some other models win out on versatility, but the SUB neck pickup sounds are just too sweet, especially clean.

I like all the pickups on my 2 Balls a lot....but I love the bridge pickup on the Axis Super Sport.

I play mostly blues and classic rock and I like a nice fat sounding pickup with juuuuust a bit of twang. Do the MM90's have the kind of tone I'm looking for?
