Music Man Petrucci BFR piezo problem

Hi guys

I know this has been discussed before and some other people had the same problem with the piezo pickup in the Music Man Petrucci BFR models but I wanted to start a new thread cause I had this problem with the piezo pickup for the second time in 4 months.

When i switch on the piezo, it makes this hissing white noise and there's no sound. I took it back to where I bought it and the tech guy over there told me that the preamp was dead and that they had to order a new preamp from Music Man and it takes a few months. (note that I live in Canada so it takes time). But luckily they had the same model in same colour (Bahama Blue Burst) so they swapped it with the other one. I played it no problem for a few months and then yesterday, out of nowhere, the same problem again. So I took it back to the store again and even the guy there couldnt believe that a 3000 dollar worth guitar is causing this much trouble..

Anyway I just wanted to share this bad experience of mine so maybe there's other users here that can share their experiences with me cause I started to believe that maybe this was a production fault or something.

Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. If not there, give Customer Service a call or e-mail.

Interesting quote from the guy at the store. Things break. Mechanical you see. That is why there are mechanics/techs.

Again...you got the answer you need. Once you get others to "share their experiences" here it gets all muddied up with everyone and their brother giving you advice (some right and some wrong) on how to fix it. Tell you what...you wouldn't get a medical diagnosis off the Internet would you? No need to have everyone give yo their opinion on a guitar no one can see, hear, play, etc.

Well, electronics and other mechanical components (such as pickup selector switches, for some reason this example came into my mind ) which are supplied to the guitar manufacturer by someone else are always difficult matter. Sometimes the component supplier might change something small in their product, and after few months it turns out to be a mistake. A guitar manufacturer can't do anything but either change the supplier or demand them to do the corrections asap.

In this case it naturally might be(not suggesting that it is) that there's a design flaw in the preamp (if the problem is exactly the same as before), but I believe that EBMM is so precise when it comes to building guitars that they have already done some research and possible actions if even needed (cause it still might be just pure bad luck) to avoid these in future.

Given how many piezo'd EBMMs are in circulation, I doubt if it's a design fault. Without knowing what the specific problem is, it's impossible to say what's happened. Could be totally unrelated.

What I do know is that when you buy an EBMM you're backed by one of one the best customer service teams known to man. So send them a note and you'll be taken care of.

Given how these threads tend to go off the rails quickly, I'm going to leave it at that.

We make everything but the piezp elements and being that they are in a trem which most companies dont do or want to do...there can be issues that are out of our control but not out of our abaility o make right as long as you use the proper channels of which this is not. thanks
