Post #300: A little praise

Hi all,

this is my 300th post and I just felt the urge to give my Luke II an the Ernie Ball Coated Slinkys a little praise!

Last night I played a show with a Blues Brothers Tribute Band (called "Black Brothers & the Bad Bones" if this might be of any interest).

Usually one might think that some Tele-style guitar would be more suitable but I started the show with my Luke II and played it during the whole show!

We played such different songs like "Soul Man", "Sweet Home Chicago", "Rawhide", "B-Movie Box Car Blues" or "Minnie the Moocher" and I never had the feeling that I had to change the guitar in order to aquire a more appropriate sound, the Luke just always sounded right in place!

There just seem to be no limits for this guitar, it is sooo versatile, you just can't go wrong with this instrument!
It will always be a good, if not the perfect match for the song!

My second praise goes out to the Ernie Ball Coated Slinky Strings!

I used to be a D'addario user, because I needed to change strings quite often and they had a good cost-benefit ratio from my point of view. I had once tried out the Elixirs but even though they kept their sound longer, they broke just around the same time like the usual strings did if I did not change them in time.

So two month ago I decided to give the Coated Slinkys a shot. Even though they were 2.5 times more expensive than the brand I would normally use, I bought two sets (just in case).
Not only because I was interested in the effect of the coating on the feeling and playability, but also (and mostly) because of the reinforced ball ends of the strings.

What shall I tell you: I put those strings on, practiced several hours and played eight gigs BEFORE last nights show.
Due to organizational circumstances I did not have the time to change strings before the show so I decided to put all my faith in those strings
RESULT:
- I tuned my guitar before each of the two sets (1.5 hours each) and never had to retune in between songs
- the strings sounded fresh and sparkly just like on day one
- they still do this morning

Can there be a better example for cost effectiveness?
Needless to say that those strings just sound sooo darn good and you would never imagine that they are coated if you hadn't read the writing on the package...!!!

Next thing I'll do is check the Coated Slinkys for my acoustic

I have to agree on the luke...
After several years w/ the JP6 and then a summer run with the AL. I find the LUKE can actually cover the same ground in 1 guitar. There are things I like about the JP, and the AL that are unique and awesome, but the LUKE has been the workhorse of late when I can only use one guitar.

Now, about those strings. Coated slinkys are the next purchase that I've put off too long. (I'm still using up my monster supply of NON coated slinkys)

I'm hooked on the coated strings. They are great and they really do last a long time. Much better than other brands. They look and feel exactly like the regular Slinky's.

I'm sold on EB's guitars, but I absolutely love their strings. I was a longtime D'addario user, but I broke a ton of them. I switched to EB 10s about a year and a half ago, and I haven't looked back. They're great strings that have a crisp and clear tone, plus they're very consistent, and last fairly long for normal strings. However, in the summertime, I decided to try the coated EB strings. WOW! They are just amazing! They sound perfect, don't feel coated, and last months. I can 100% trust EBMM and their guitars and strings. They are absolutely the best items you will find in any store today.

Have to agree the Luke can get alot of sounds, but it gets some sweet blues sounds for sure.

The neck PU on the Luke serves up some tasty blues tones in the right hands.

The EMG 85 is no slouch either. Gets a nice skanky tone when slightly overdriven.

Give 'em a try, I do sweat a lot with my hands as well and I have never encountered strings that would withstand so much abusal for such a long time
