Started Building My Project Guitar Today...

Today I decided to get off my ass and start building my guitar. So I grabbed my drawing and began my master template. These two pics show the drawing before I glued it to a piece of 1/8" thick tempered hard-board and then after I rough cut the shape on my bandsaw. I need to setup my oscillating spindle sander to final sand it to shape. This will be my master from which I will make templates with different pup, bridge configs and even mods to the body style itself. I don't know how much time I'll be able to put into this but I have no more excuses as I've loaded up on wood and have all the parts already.

It's funny, there was a dude on another forum who said you could put EMG's in a plywood cut out and it would rock the world.....getting EMG's for that? LOL or are you making it a hollow body?!?!?!

Today I made a top for my spindle sander. This way I could easily final sand my master. Here is the top with the master after some sanding. I need to do more sanding. :-)

This isn't part of the actual body. It's a 1/8" thick piece of tempered hardboard. It will be the routing template for the body blank. That would be about 1 5/8" thick without the flamed maple top.

I used to work in precast concrete, and I always dreamed of making a conrete body, with a bolt on wooden neck...you could polish it and get some wicked looking finishes, depending on the aggregates and the cement colour...however I wouldn't know if it would work...the weight might be a small issue, but then again you could pour a fine mix into a thin form and get a strong, thin and somewhat lighter body...meh who am I kidding!

    Jon,

Yeah, like you'd admit you really thought I was making a 1/8" thick guitar.
