Play both of them and see which one fits you best. From my viewpoint, the EVH models have only been a variation on a theme since he left EBMM.

I've never played the new EVH but I'll bet the neck isnt as nice. I have read it has bigger frets.

Well, it definitely makes it harder if you can't try them side-by-side. What are you looking for out of the guitar?

Stainless frets play like butter. Super slippery and fast playing, though they add a bit a sparkle and high-end to the sound. Is a carved top important? They're nice, but not critical to comfort IMO.

At least in the States, you can buy 2 Axis models for the price of 1 EVH Fender. Or an Axis and a Morse...or AL...or Silo...

I got the opportunity to play the EVH last year at NAMM... though it was nice i wasn't as impressed with it as i was the first time i picked up an Axis... there's something magical about the EBMMs that you won't find anywhere...
    funny commentary pending...

Another idea for you...buy the 25th Anniversary model. It's based on the EVH/Axis, but adds some very cool tones of its own. I can still pull very similar tones to my EVH, but have a few more tones at my disposal with the 25th.

*Edit, I should add the Reflex is starting to become available too, which is a standard production model of the 25th

Well, I'm probably biased, but I don't think you can get a better value on the market for playability, tone, and build quality than EBMM. I'd put the build quality on par with guitars costing much more.
