I just got one of the new iMacs at Christmas time. I'd always had and used PCs previous to that.
Interesting reading for those of you that are newer.

User: "Hello, my computer *insert meaningless explanation here*"
IT Guy: "Did you try turning off and then on again?"
User: "It won't turn on at all."
IT Guy: "Is it plugged in?"
User: "OH! That did it! Thanks!"

I really should have made a poll. Slight advantage go to the Mac users.
Some people are passionate about what computers they use. As Steve said, this could have got ugly. Glad to see everyone stayed civil.
Mac Mini for me. recently converted once i finally realised a Mac can run windows properly allowing me to use AutoCAD properly.
Always loved a mac but their G series chips were useless. ;-)

Huge thanks for starting this thread as this is super helpful. I would actually like some people to chime in WHY they prefer one over the other.
I have been needing a laptop for awhile and I am a long time PC/dell user. I've been checking out the 13" macpro, mostly because a friend is happy he made the switch. For a long time I have hated the mac mentality, but it seems that the platform simply performs better....for many things.
My parents bought me an iPhone for Christmas and I like it alot (notice I didn't say love). It's bulky and does what I need it to do plus some bells and whistles. I would instantly trade the applications function for a smaller phone which still had email and web access. I like having music in my phone, but the sound quality lacks considerably compared to my Sony mp3 player. Nothing is perfect I guess. Like I said, I like the phone, but I truly don't understand the people who say "I can't imagine my life without it."
I digress, I'm still thinking about moving to a Mac laptop, but it's a tough call. It IS about 40% more for a Macpro vs a Dell with the same components. Here's my question, for the lovers of all thing Apple, is it worth 40% more...... and why? Thanks for the help.
(p.s. to furthur demonstrate my long time avoidance of Mac, I only started using iTunes when I got the phone.)

Happy to oblige, Radrock.
I use a Mac at home because I also have a home studio and I use Logic for my DAW. It's also super stable and an easy user experience. I wouldn't mind using Windows, except Logic is Mac only as is my recording interface (Apogee Ensemble).
I use Linux at work because I'm a Unix/Linux System Administrator. It makes it easier to do my job since all the tools I need for my servers are right there on my desktop. I also have a PC with Windows XP at work, but I only use that for e-mail and our call tracking system.
If I were to buy a new PC today and didn't have the need for a DAW, I would get an inexpensive PC, likely refurbished, which I could put the Linux distrubution of my choice on. Or I would build my own.
As far as a smartphone goes, I am an iPhone user as well, but I'm not married to the thing. I've taken a look at other smartphone platforms as well. The only one with promise is Android, and Google needs to stop forking their development cycle and make a single unified platform, otherwise it'll get completely out of hand and difficult to deal with.
There are a lot less options when buying a Mac, that alone makes the price higher since there isn't any competition. Plus the comparison is apples to oranges. It's like comparing an Axis to a Les Paul or an Albert Lee to a Strat. If you're worried about the price, buy what you can afford which will do what you need it to.
