    jp and luke tremolos

hi, i am thinking of purchasing my first EBMM. I was wondering what is the difference between the jp and luke tremolos, and is the luke tremolo like a strat style tremolo? i heard these tremolo's float? how does that compare to a floyd rose?

im sorry if this has been covered before because im just confused...

    thanks

im not sure about the luke trem, but the JP trem is fully floating and super stable. it can take alot of trem 'abuse' and still stay in tune. no fine tune adjustments like a FR, no locking nut, just the trem and locking tuners and it works amazingly well. i was skeptical at first about the tuning stability, but when i got a JP i was pleasantly surprised. i will never buy a FR guitar, too much tinkering for me.. can restring my JP in less than 10 minutes (without cleaning it etc, just changing strings).. i love the JP trem, best trem system ive ever used.

no because the JP trem is fully floating (like a FR) if you break a string it will go out of tune.

Essentially the same tremolos, JP and Luke are both vintage style 2-pivot-points non-locking tremolos with locking tuners. Had the same trem as Luke on my 20-th silo, it was set to flutter - and was as stable and comfy as the JP-trem. They sound slightly different (to me) because one is fully floating, the other "just" flutters down a bit (one step or a tad more), and the Luke trem has a vintage trem arm as opposed to the Floyd-Like trem arm on the JP.

so is setting it up identical to a typical floyd setup but without the locking nut? like in the action and trem height, etc...

If we are talking JP - then yes, it's like a floyd, but a lot easier because of the lack of the locking nut. If it is a luke, than it's more like a strat with a trem floating slightly over the body.

The Luke trem is not recessed like the JP but is set up to float by angling it forward a bit. You can do some nice smooth and articulate vibrato, bend up or down 3 semitones (I believe), or flutter to your hearts content. I love it.

It can, as long as the angle is not too great as to take pressure off of the saddles. I have my silo special floating with a piezo system as well. Works great and the piezo sounds great without any issues

The trem on the JP is the best trem I ever had. Even after all the years of playing Strats I never had one that could stay in tune with mild abuse. Jeff Beck is just the messiah of the trem and I had to ask a friend who builds for the custom shop how he can play a whole show and not have the guitar go out. And he told me he was at a sound check once and when Beck was done he asked his tech if he could check out his Strat and he said go ahead but it is not going to be in tune. And when he picked it up the guitar was totally out(true story) so Beck is not of this earth and just shapes the notes to pitch.

Everyone knows a floyd can be dropped 20 stories and stay in tune. But besides sucking life from your tone they are just torture to restring. The trem on the JP is like all the best trems combined as it can take a real healthy dose of abuse and stay in tune. It really is quite in genius and to me the best there is.
