Well G if you do not like thin necks as I dont either the JP is not for you.I did the unthinkable and after reading great review after great review I bought one without playing it and when I held the neck I was shocked Petrucci played with such a thin one. To be honest the guitar is so great I kept it though and my son uses it.

I would say go n the Axis or Luke direction as I own an Axis and two EVHs which is basically the same guitar and have played a Luke and those necks will be more up your alley besides them being two great guitars.

I have a Silhouette, you can't go wrong with that neck, unless you like shred flat and wide necks, which you don't. I tried a Luke once and didn't like the V profile. If you can try one first, do so, if not, go used, that way you won't lose much money if you don't like it or resell it.

To me another deciding factor would be the pickups. I'm not a fan of actives, and the Silo routing offers more choices for modding.

Ive heard a bit about this V profile, but im not totally sure what it actually is. Could anyone tell me what V profile means with respect to the neck, like whats different compared to a normal neck etc?
    Thanks

Though it's going to be hard to get your hands on one of those to test it out too depending on where you live....
^^^ Nice post...maybe you were thinking you were on a different forum. ^^^

IF you don't like thin necks....the JP will probably not be for you. Hard to explain the "V" shaped neck of the Luke. To me, it "rounds over" more sharp than a gradual radius. Somewhere in this forum is a diagram someone posted. Good luck on finding the one for you. I would suggest Luke or Axis. Play one if at all possible.
