    Advice on new guitar

    Hi,
Basically i'm looking to buy a new guitar and have always loved the look of musicmans. However I don't live anywhere near a dealer and was wondering if anyone could help me out.
I'm thinking of getting a Luke or Petrucci, but i'm not a fan of really flat thin necks (hated my old ibanez wizard). Can anyone tell me what the luke or petrucci necks are like please?
    Thanks a lot,
    Greg

Welcome, awhile back some of the members here did a little measuring of neck dimensions and thickness, this might help you out. There will be plenty of others who will have input as well

    Good Luck

If the neck on the MM JP model is anything like the neck on the Ibanez Petrucci model, it really isn't that thin. Not as thin as the wizard necks anyway

I'm guessing from your post that you would really like the Luke neck though.
    It's just super comfortable, imho

Hey Greg- welcome to the forum!

Whereabouts are you located? Maybe there's someone nearby with a Luke or Pet that would let you try it.

If I'm not mistaken, the Petrucci neck is the thinest of all the necks MM makes. That was the first thing I noticed when I picked one up. But I guess it's all relative to what you're used to. I'm more accustomed to the Axis thickness.

I love the feel of the Luke neck in comparison. I'll be the first to admit that I'm biased though, since I'm saving up my pennies for a new Luke.

Also, I would consider a Silhouette, unless you don't like the look.

I think the best thing about Music Man guitars is the neck. The models do vary a bit, but the playability is phenomenal. The JP neck is rather thin, but I haven't played a Wizard to give a comparison. The Luke neck is thicker, so that might be a safer bet. Both are awesome guitars. (As are the Axis and Silhouettes).

The JP neck is a bit on the thin side for my taste, but not as thin as an Ibz wiz neck.It is wider at the nut,1 11/16" wide with a fairly flat 15" radius. The luke is 1 5/8" with a 12" radius with an offset v shape but not overly thick imho....Play both if you can and decide from there.

If you can't travel to a store to try one out and have to order on blind faith I would try a luke first. From the sound of things I think you'd prefer the neck over the JP.I would check out the return/exchange policy first just in case you don't care for the luke and decide to try a JP,silo,or an axis.

Brothers, the Luke is definitely a wonderful guitar, but I guess our soon to be Knucklehead brother has to check this out first.

I really wanted have a Luke, but I just didn't get along with the neck's V-shape. As a fellow knucklehead said before, check out also a Silo, because this might be the neck that you're looking for

As someone who plays both Ibanez (J.Custom with a Wizard Neck) and BFR JP's...I'd say you might want to look at something else. You'd probably dig Caparisons. They have a nice but subtle C shaped neck. If you've ever played an older USA Jackson- it's somewhat similar to that. Itaru use to run the Jackson Custom shop.
Though it's going to be hard to get your hands on one of those to test it out too depending on where you live....

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I think it seems like the Luke will be the best choice for me from the sounds of things.
    Cheers for all your help,
    Greg
