So, what's JM doing in that pic? Is that a drum stick he's slapping on the strings?

Kind of looks like his take on Tony Levin's funk fingers (or finger in this case).

I played a black Reflex at Guitar Center this past weekend. Great sounding guitar, no doubt.

There's a "Guitar Center" Reflex in the US in GC exclusive Indian Ivory and also in black. The black Reflex and a few limited colors will be available worldwide as regular production guitars after Summer NAMM '10.

I had the chance to try the Reflex and the 25th Anniversary at Guitar Center in Houston this weekend. I was shopping for an amp, and I tried it with a Boogie Mark V (a few Lukes and Silos as well, obviously my JP too )

This guitar is SICK and I must own one, period. I came home with the Mark V and I'm very happy, but the GAS got a lot worse. haha

Basically what people sometimes do with that trick is they fret cords, double stops, or single notes and sound them by banging on the strings with a drum stick instead of picking. Give up a very interesting sound and if your left hand muting technique is solid, then it can be very interesting.

I read an interview once where EVH said he heard "Big Time" by Peter Gabriel, where Tony does that cool stick thing on the intro, and the next time EVH saw Tony, he had to ask him "WTF are you doing there?", and Tony showed him. Kind of a poetic justice, since EVH had himself inspired quite a few "WTF?" moments among guitarists, especially on the early albums.
