EBMM JP6 DDII - Nut "ping" and saddle question

Hi guys,

I have two EBMM JP6's - one being very new and one being very old. With that said i am having a couple "issues" with the new one and I use that term very loosely because I think I know how to fix one of them and the other may not BE an issue and more to do with me I don't know.

1) With the compensated nut, is it typical that you would get a lot of string "ping" for lack of a better technical description when using the tremolo? I ask because on my original JP6, it never has had that problem ever so I am a little confused. I guess this is this something I can resolve with some graphite?

2) With the new JP6 I have, I am noticing that I am breaking a LOT of strings! I am not playing any more than I was before, nor do I THINK I'm playing any harder and I use the tremolo just as much as I ever have so I was surprised to be breaking strings like I am - and I don't mean the high "E" but the E, D AND G strings. Especially with it being only a few months old. I don't "SEE" anything wrong with the saddles but they are so small it's hard to tell. I had the original set of strings on there for a LONG time - probably 3-4 months and FINALLY broke one, but since then, I am breaking strings a lot more frequently - especially in relation to the other JP6 which I change strings on about 2 times a year or before a "legitimate" gig worth changing strings for whichever comes first - LOL

So with the bridge issue is there something I can try or something I can check and if for some reason there is a "burr" or whatever on the saddle, I would think it's far too early for something like that to develop?

OR is it the strings?

Funny quick story... Just to tell you how often I break strings with my other JP6... I bought it I think in 2003 and they had a promotion for 2 years worth of free strings! 24 sets... I JUST used my last set of Slinkys in 2008 and was given 3 boxes of DiAddario's <sorry Big Poppa> (3 sets per box) which lasted me until I had to change the strings on my Dargie! I bought for the first time the strings in the new packaging and unless you guys changed the formula in the strings or something I can't imagine that would be the cause.

They're definitely breaking at the saddle I can tell you that much cause I have two bulldogs who eat anything and when I break one, it's a mad dash to find the ball end - LOL

I would call Customer Service and let them know what's going on. If your strings are binding at the nut, it may just be that the nut needs to be filed a bit.

For issue #1, I'd just lube the nut... for issue #2, contact CS like Phil said above....

By the way... the Dargie JP rules!!!

Thanks guys I will definitely do that! and thanks I LOVE the Dargie... I saw it at NAMM and obsessed the WHOLE time I was there since that's always the first booth I go to and was thinking to myself the whole time "Ok I can sell my <insert gear here> and maybe <insert more gear here> and maybe prostitute my wife out and..." The most beautiful paint finish ever IMO 'course I'm totally queer for green so yeah I HAD to have it and it was hell saving for it in the time I had to order it and the time it was done - in my mind I'm thinking "take your sweet time boys... seriously... this kid is b-r-o-k-e!"

I had the exact same "problem" with my DDII JP6 when it came. I just lived with it for the first few weeks, and it has since gone away (I've had it for 5 or 6 months now), so I'd assume it just had something to do with the nut slot being slightly too tight or something, and the string wore it down enough to stop creaking.

Or maybe not. Either way, the issue has since stopped, so it likely will stop with yours as well. But if you want an immediate fix, just lube the nut (like everyone else has said) because it's obviously the binding of the string at the nut that is causing the "pinging".

I have a really old JP too (it was made 3 days after the initial run of 100), and I've never had any problems with that guitar either. I guess they just made them perfect the first time around?

Thanks buddy - I'll go with the graphite and see how that pans out and hopefully it'll eventually work itself out - glad to here I'm not the only one! - and yes the one from 2002 was indeed perfect in every sense and still is so they must've cared more back then... hahahaha! I keeeed I keeeeed!

I'm going to call Cust Support on the bridge and see whats up there and I'm all set!
