Something that I can tell you that might help you out. You can literally sand off all of the finish on your neck and then treat it with Birchwood Casey gunstock oil (Tru Oil). Don't follow the directions on the bottle. Put a bit on a paper towel and wipe it on. Wait for a couple minutes and wipe it off. Wait about an hour and repeat. After a couple days, use any kind of carnauba wax on it. It's how I did my Sublhouette which originally had a painted neck that I had to sand to remove the paint. Check out my thread and focus on the neck part of it. It feels exactly like my other 3 Musicman guitars.

Once the tru oil treatment is done, you can use Ernie Ball wonder wipes to keep the neck clean. And no....the tru oil does not darken the neck.

keep in mind that you are talking about four pieces of wood two pots one switch a trem along with springs two pickups and some wire.....BP

    Ok.
So my question NOW, is, if I want to clean my Fret Board with Murphys Oil Soap tonight, (wipe it off good) and then come back in a couple of days any apply Bischwood Casey Gun Stock Oil, would THAT be OK?
I'm really at this point, just trying to clean the "light Grime" off the Fret Board.

I have a Bottle of "Murphys Oil Soap Original".
If I clean the Fretboard and put nothing else on it, will I be screwing it up?
If I WILL BE, then what should I put on it, that will keep the original Finish/Color and wont Darken the wood, that might be avaliable at a Hardware or Grocery Store, without having to go to a Gun Shop,
    or "Specialty Store"?
Use EB fretboard conditioner, you dont want to put gunstock oil on the fretboard.

How about the Murphys Oil Soap.
I've been reading many Forums/Posts and I'm going to use this to clean the Fretboard, but since I'm tucked away in the Mountains with no Big City Stores, that means everything has to be ordered over the Internet and its a "waiting Game".
I need something I can pick up at Walmart, The Hardware Store or Gun Shop, to use on my Fret Board AFTER cleaning it with the Murphys Oil Soap.

Shellac or tongue oil is excellent as a sealer protectant/finish on bare necks.
Musikraft does this on their necks.

I clean my rosewood fretboards with Murphys Oil Soap in a 50/50 solution and it works better than anything else I've tried and leaves the neck super clean and ready for the oil. Then I use fret doctor on the rosewood. It also works better than anything else I've tried in 35 years, and I've tried everything else, believe it. Don't listen to skeptics concerning fret Dr.

Well I'm on 2 Guitar Forums and must have gotten 20 responses on what to do and NOT to do.

So tomorrow, I'll be Cleaning my Fret Board with a 50/50 Solution of Murphys Oil Soap and then at Double application of Birchwood Casey Gun Stock Tru-Oil finish.

Cleaned the Fret Board with Murphys Oil Soap and followed up with 2 coats of Birchwood Gunstock Oil and it cleaned-up/Looks GREAT!

Also another question, the back pickup seems to be (I wont say LOOSE) but feels like it's mounted on Rubber.
Kinda moves a little when touched. It doesnt move out of place, it just has some "give" to it.
    Is this normal?

I also saw why my Toggle Cap fell off.
It looks like the Threaded part of the switch has broken off, only leaving a coulpe of threads.
So I just plab to have the whole swith replaced when I take it in to be set-up.

I bought the "Dunlop Guitar Cleaning Kit" with the Cleaner and Carnuba Way.

I'll be cleaning the Body today, but I was wondering,
if it was OK to use this on the BACK of the Neck?

Instructions say you can use it daily because there's "No Wax Buildup",
so I was assuming it was safe to use it to Polish up the BACK of the Neck.

    Anyone???
