Help: Ernie Ball JPX 6 PIEZO / MAGNETIC QUESTIONS

Well, I'm more then likely finally buying a JPX 6 or 7 (Undecided...) In August, but there's one thing I have some confusion regarding.

On the guitar, there are two outputs, one for the "Piezo" pickup setting, and one for the "Magnetic" pickup setting. I've read over the diagram, and I believe that a mono cable coming from both of the two outputs would be a fairly decent option, as you get a mix of the two, and the mix pot is still activated.

THE QUESTION:

My amp as far as I know, and most amps in general seem to only have one input on them... Is it only possible to achieve having two cords coming from your guitar to your amp with a two input amp, or are there other ways? Is there a way to plug in a single cord that has two mono ends on it into your guitar (Is that even a real thing )? Is there a way to do it wirelessly, or will I just have to suffice with using one cord for live gigs due to time constraints in switching cords, and only be able to use them both for recording?

The best way to run the piezo signal is into a dedicated acoustic amp or a PA. A normal guitar amp is not voiced properly for the acoustic signal.

You have a few options. The easiest is 2 cables, one to your main amp, the other to an acoustic amp or PA. You can also run one mono cable in the mono jack which will carry both signals from the guitar and you would use your switch on the upper horn to swich between them. OR, you can use a stereo cable in the stereo jack, but you'd need to split the signal into two amps with a splitter box.

Hi Reed and welcome to the forum.

Lou has just about answered it for you insofar as you can use just the one mono cable which will carry both the mag and piezo signal to your amp.

Option 2 is to run two mono cables - one cable would carry the mag signal to your rig and the other cable would run the Piezo to either a dedicated acoustic amp or you could DI the piezo into the band PA.

The 3rd option is to run a stereo lead from your guitar into a splitter which would split the signal as per option 2 above.

I run a stereo lead into an EB 6165 stereo/pan pedal. This splits my signal to enable me to run my mags to my rig and my piezo to my acoustic amp. I can then use the pedal to "see- saw" between the two or to swell the volume of both amps in tandem.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'll look more into the splitter option and do some research in that regard, as that seems like an interesting concept. Later on, purchasing a designated acoustic amp to run the Piezo signal through with another mono cable sounds like something I should obviously get doing sometime soon. : p Thanks again.

P.S: I'll be sure to post pictures of this guitar when I get it. I'm uber excited to finally be able to have a guitar that literally has everything I want and need in it and even more.

Hello

I just bought a used Jpx-7 and with the piezo i have a crackling/no sound problem only on the third string. It seems to change depending on the bridge's position when I try it with the tremolo bar. Anybody has suggestions?

Sounds like there is an issue with that string saddle. Contact EB customer service.

I'm having a problem to connect the piezo and the magnetic jacks at the same time with one cable:

One 1/4" stereo TRS male to 2 - 1/4" mono male. 2-conductor shielded cable.

Maybe I bought the wrong cable... I thought it was just a matter of using a Y cable to use both jacks...

Is there a solution to connect both using 1 cable in 1 Input in my amp?

I would not bother with the cable you bought - it's only 8 foot long as well.
Earlier in the thread it was explained that you can have the piezo and mags going just through a mono cable and control the Piezo on off via the horn toggle switch.
So if you have one amp all you need is a mono cable.
