I have said it before and I'll say it again...
Leave that great guitar alone!
Guitars: EBMM JP 6, EBMM 25th, Ibanez 7 string, Carvin DC127 (on order)
Amps: Mark V, HT-5, Cube 30, Hot Rod Deluxe, many cabs
Effects: Carbon Copy, DD-20, Cry Baby Wah, Pitchblack, EVH Phaser
Great deals with frisco, Astronome, and others
to get true coil tapping you'll need to install a push/pull pot.
the stock switch will not yield true coil tapping.
in the center position the sound changes to more single coil type sound, but with more volume.
not many people have replaced the trem bridge. My personal JP50 the bridge has been solid and no tuning issues. I use a little nut sauce in the nut slots and the trem stays in tune.

the dimarzio pot is good. Best bet is to use it for the tone knob.
another way to go is to install a 3 way 4 pole switch Dimarzio part no. EP1111. This way you won't have to replace the tone pot. The wiring diagram is located here (PDF file)

Hey thanks for the help patpark. My only complaint is that they don't make a 7 string jp50
