This is a discussion on New mods on my two SUB1's (long post) within the Music Man Guitars forums, part of the Gear Talk category; Originally Posted by Jack FFR1846 Wanna borrow my router? ...why, what do you mean???...
He means, you can use a router and a single coil template and rout a single coil middle pickup rout into that Sub 1 body and then you can install a SSH or an SSS pickguard at will. I just got another SSS pickguard for my graphite Sub 1 and intend to install some Tex Mex pickups in it, and it'll be wired up just like a $trat. I built a black SSS Silhouette Special guard up a ways back and then sold it to a bloke in England. It had DiMarzio Blue Velvets in it and I'm sure the guy is still using it. It was great sounding in a Sub 1 for sure.

One of my primary objectives was to see how much mileage/flexibility I could get out of the two-humbucker setup, particularly given how good the stock humbuckers sound. Also, my goal for getting any single-coil sounds was more of a 'it'd be cool if I could have' proposition vs. 'I must have' situation. Lastly, the addition of a third pickup would both complicate and limit the wiring possibilities.
Thanks!
