haha...i find it funny you never read my post. I already said i tried the foam thing. And it didn't work. Also, i never said i have my gain that high. Im just saying I could have that much gain without feedback if i wanted too. And the tone at 3-4 gain is crushing, until you play and riffs, then it feels like your missing something. (reason for a tube screamer)...oh and dude, you think i don't go through every possible solution before I decide to do what I did? you think im that stupid? i have 2, ns-2. i can be downstairs and still get feedback, or outside. i can isolate my whole amp with foam and stuff and still, i get that feedback. Oh and i spent days dialing in different amp settings and honestly, the only way I fixed the problem was to have my gain to 2-3, volume at less then 2, and presence at around 5 or less. Oh and don't say its a bad tube. I changed them and all my other guitars work fine. The pickup is lower then it was. The picture doesn't do justice. But it is lower....oh and lastly. You care that it looks bad? does it matter what it looks like? its about the tone. Not the look. If i wanted to buy a guitar for the look, i would hang it on my wall. From what it looks like, you have the money to just go and buy guitars. I can't do that. I have a minimum wage job.

swammbo the bottom line is you took a risk and it paid off, and I respect you have the Balls to have done it-Ernie Balls lol. Bottom line is it is your ax and you can do whatever you want with it, then again someone may be looking for the same results as you and may do the mod you did, also I like guys that live on the edge so stick around.

finally! someone that appreciates what I did. Thank you straycat113!...I didn't mean to start anything. I just wanted to post this so maybe someone who types "jp6 feedback" into google, will get something more then just the useless crap about how beautiful and amazing their jp6 looks (not trying to be mean, but thats all I pretty much found on google. Tons of pictures and crap of their guitar. Mostly all on this forum). This forum seems to be full of people that collect these guitars and therefore seem to consider them works of art that should hang above their fireplace or something. These guitars are beautiful, don't get me wrong, but seriously? Last time I checked, you play a guitar, not sip tea and ponder over it. And when you have no money and your on tour, you don't care about your guitar. You have no idea how many times our screamer or bassist has knocked over my guitar at shows. A lot. But it still works and thats all I care about. And when it isn't performing how it should be, ill do drastic things to fix it, because in the end, its just wood and electronics. and if people think I mutilated my guitar, you should see some of the other touring bands gear. They customize their guitars and amps like no bodies business. Its fun and you get something thats your own. Thats what its all about isnt it?

Hey, fella. That includes me. Being a delicate sort, I could take offence. I take pics, talk crap, and love doing so.

A signature model, brother. The Ibanez JPM models didn't have them either, all direct mounted.

Music Man, Suhr, Parker, Anderson, Ibanez, etc etc, all have models with no pickups rings. That said, do consider that the Music Man Reflex, 20th, and 25th guitars; they all use pickup rings. There is variety and choice for players.

A certain Albert Lee would disagree. Seymour Duncan pickups appear on a very popular model!

Oh, and while I do play guitar, I also sip tea and ponder over it! I fu*#ing love tea, me.

It's your guitar. You've got to be happy with it. So do what you gotta do to get the sound that moves you. An expensive guitar isn't worth squat musically if you can't get it to do what you want with it. So kudos to you man. You took a risk and it paid off for your musical endeavors.

With that said, I just wanted to state personally, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the guitar, it's just JP's guitar and it's done his way. Pretty simple. The design works for him, and lets be honest. His tone is wicked.

If you need to modify it here and there to get to your musical destination, I say go for it 110%.

    To music! cheers

I like the fact that you have done this to your guitar. Lowering the pickup will have a big effect on your tone. I know that because when I had first had my war horse JP6 the previous owner had stuffed cardboard packers under the bridge pickup. There was quite a difference to the sound when I removed the packers.

If I'd told people what I had done to my Les Paul (which I have to add I no longer use)- it would make your toes curl - had it since '73 and it's gone through the wringer - even missing a small piece of the headstock. OK so the guitar is now almost 40 years old and if it was a case queen it would be worth substantially more than it is now - but I wouldn't have had all the fun adding to it's wear!! I was like you at the time - working on a building site - no money to afford an arsenal of guitars - infact I only had one guitar with me during many years of gigging.

So - the purists will frown but I for one take my hat off to you, and hope you stick around.
