Neck Cleaning Part II - Hardtail Axis (with pics!)

After the success of cleaning the neck on my EVH, I though I should tackle my red Axis Hardtail.

I recently had the back of the neck sealed with 6 coats of gun stock oil as this neck has always felt slimy. The guy who did it buffed it to a sheen and I could not be happier. However, the fingerboard was disgusting and I decided to tackle it for myself. Just a light going over with wire wool and 16 years of gunk came off! Its looking a little anemic now, but I am sure I will get used to the new look!

Here are some 'in progress' shots:

The board is much smoother I am pleased to report!

Sadly the back has not changed. The guy who did it only did some light sanding and then sealed in the remaining dirt with the gun stock oil coats.

I have not used Murphy's. Maybe it would have cleaned it, who knows? I cleaned the fingerboard more for the slimy feeling than the look to be honest.

If you are happy with the results and feel then go for it! I think a container of Wonder Wipes and five minutes of your time after playing will be useful in the long run Tim.
