    Egnater advice

    Guys,
I had a previous thread discussing the possibilities of a new amp. Thanks to Dean Wells' generous advice and a youtube demo of the Renegade 65 head, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go for it. I found another one of those "deals of the century". It's a floor model Renegade 65 head and 4x12 tourmaster angled cabinet. I really don't need a "half stack". However, I'm getting a killer deal on this head and cabinet. My current amp has built in effects which i like, but the Egnater will probably require a delay pedal, tuner, wah, etc. I want to steer clear of that crummy digitally processed sound. Can you guys offer some suggestions on affordable effects that would allow me to enhance the clean tone's sustain and any other help regarding this unit? I'm trying to keep a low budget. Dean said he used a "standard OD pedal" in his youtube demo. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you're on a budget, the TC Flashback is a pretty good delay. Egnater makes some fun amps. In the other thread you mentioned a Mesa. The Egnater won't get you that sound if that's a big deal to you. If you want more sustain, you're probably looking for a compressor. Try the setup before you decide that you need this stuff though. You might be happy with it as is.

Thanks acwild. I tested the renegade 65 2x12 combo and was pleasantly surprised with the dirty channel. The clean needs a little help with sustain. You're probably right about a compressor pedal. I'll explore all avenues.

Agree with acwild. A compressor would be handy for what you are looking for. If on a budget, the MXR Custom Compressor is very good. Have the cash, go for a Keeley 4 knob compressor. Also, the TC Flashback delay is excellent, be sure to put it in your FX loop and not out front of the amp.

The tradeoff with the compressor is that it'll squash your dynamics.

I can highly recommend the TC Electronic Nova Repeater. Tons of pristine TC delays and a very easy to understand layout for $149. Another thing to think about is the Xotic EP Booster which is really nice. I leave it on almost all the time. It can be subtle but it sounds great!

I went through God knows countless "boutique" delays before settling on the lowly Boss DD-20. Absolutely perfect for my needs. Sounds killer in the loop of the Renegade.

Plus the DD-20 gives you 4 presets + whatever you have dialed in live. No need for knob twiddling between or even during songs :-)

Though still in the honeymoon phase, I have both the MXR Custom Shop Comp and the TC Flashback delay. Both are very good for what I would consider budget minded pedals. The Comp can be set to be very mild, so you don't get the complete squash that acwild was mentioning and it's nice and quiet too. The Flashback is the best of the Toneprint pedals (IMHO), with plenty of options.

I have a DD3 in my loop for now but definitely looking forward to getting the flashback as well. The Corona chorus is also very cool and will give you tons of chorus options.

NOW, there is also the new John Petrucci signature TC pedal with 3 effects and toneprint enabled! You guys heard of this one yet?

There's a Toneprint for the Flashback that turns it into a chorus.
