Hamilton Loomis does a walk about with his 25th Anni in Cardiff

A while ago Hamilton Loomis played in Cardiff and I was on the sound desk. Here's a clip that a FB friend posted and I thought you might like to see it? The clipping of the sound is down to the way it was recorded on video cam.

FWIW you can just about make me out at 2:20 taking photos by the desk next to the guy with his arms folded over the rails surrounding the 'desk.

I got home at 2:30 this morning from his show in Slidell, La. What an incredible entertainer/guitarist.His sound just bleeds tone. And one hell of a nice guy. The rest of the band is incredible also.

I think it is a Marshall....however, 90 % of that tone comes from his fingers!!!!! I am sorry I had to do sound last night and miss his Slidell, La....show!!!!! What a great funky, bluesy, soulful artist!!!!

I've only seen him play through the Marshall jcm800 combo(I think). I know he has a Peavey Classic 50 as a back up. T-Show is right, Hamilton is the 1st to tell you where tone comes from. We actually talked a little bit about it last night. He showed me a few different things that he does to stand out a bit, tone wise. What a great guy to just hang with & talk EBMM guitars.

Well I just looked at the clip again - maybe a small Fender? Not a 15 watt Junior.

I took a shot of his pedal board also. If I had his exact setup, I'm sure I could not replicate his sound. He's meticulous on his settings, and it shows in his playing. I highly recommend buying his newly released DVD. It's high def quality and it looks and sounds great:

I had a JCM 900 combo years back....never managed to make it sound as good as that !! Just had a look on his site seems his main OD pedal is a Barber "Small Fry Burn Unit". Best look out for one of those then ;^)

Sounds awesome. I actually like the look of that 25th without the chrome covers better.

Pretty cool story as to why the covers were taken off. He had a Les Paul years ago at an outdoor gig in the heat. During the break he noticed that the intense heat had melted the wax in the pickups, so he took the covers off. The rest of the band noticed how much better & brighter the guitar sounded without the pickup covers. He's played that way ever since.

He knows the mixing desk inside out too. He was great to work with at the sound check.
