    should I or shouldn't I

been mulling this one over for awhile...

been considering unloading my EBMM axis to pick up a petrucci....I just think the neck on a petrucci (which is very similar to my lynch ESP) would be more comfortable...

I broke a string on my esp a couple weeks back and in the interest of laziness I just started using my axis more and more..and I was digging it...but I finally got around to restrinign my lynch last night and played a little bit..and it was like instant shred..I love the neck on that friggin' thing...

argghhhh....I really have no money to buy another guitar being that I have a Quick Rod half stack on the way...lol...but if I could unload my axis and get the petrucci and break even or maybe have to shell out a couple extra bucks, it's definetly something to consider..

the pups would have to be swapped with duncans of course =) jb in the bridge, maybe a 59 or jazz in the neck...

yearggh!!! what to do, what to do

    Wow man, tough dilemma!

If you're really sold on the Pet, I betcha can find someone to trade with. Worst case scenario, you should be able to sell yours and pick one up for bit more $$$.

But- if you love your ESP, do you need another guitar that's similar to it? I like having a few that feel different- it's a totally different vibe to play something with a different neck and sound.

I was a die hard Axis/EVH player, then I bought my first Petrucci model. The neck was very strange to me at first, but after a couple of months I was hooked. The Pet neck seemed to fit my hand better and I think made me a better player. Plus you can beat the 24 frets.

Let's not forget that trem...ohhhhh the trem...kind of like cartilage, rigid yet very flexible...well that's what comes to mind

I tried the Axis, believe me I wanted to love the neck but I found it too narrow...now I can only speak about a JP 7 and I can tell you that there's a huge difference...night and day. Have you tried a Pet?

I'm with Beej. I like to have some contrasting guitars. Great for dfferent moods and recording. That's why i also got a fender richie kotzen tele and ovation breadwinner (1972).

it's not that I don't like the sound...it's just that I have a love/hate relationship with the neck..maybe I should have it set up, but I don't see how the action can be lowered on the upper registers any more without it buzzing at the bottom...like I said, i was getti'n into it then I started playin' my ESP again and it was rip city =)

well, here's the thing....I wanted to try one out, but the one they had at GC was sooo hideously set up, intonation, action, busted string that I couldn't get afeel for it..

I did play an OLP one which I would imagine has the same neck dimensions..adn I was pretty comfy on that...

Ah, ok, I gotcha man. Yeah, it's such a gorgeous guitar, but you want to love it when you pick it up, or what's the point.

Sounds like a good idea- get it set up right and see if that makes a difference. For sure you can get the action exactly how you'd like. Find a good tech and let them have at it. If you can't find a good tech ... send it to Tommy

that's the thing..Ive been on teh net quite a few times looking for a tech and I can't find squat...maybe I'll start making some phone calls..

I'd hate to have to bring it to guitar center then be without it for two weeks...that's how they operate

Yeesh! Yeah, that's a long time to be w/o your guitar.

The gang will be back next week- I bet if you post a thread looking for a good local tech you'll get a bunch of good recommendations.
