Hi Guys
Been a long time since i was here !
Hope all is well in the world of low enders. my much loved 83 ray is having tuning issues. Two of the pegs keep on slipping on me to the point that i can no longer gig it. Yes i have used proper amount of wraps and tried new strings.
Could you guys please give me some advise as to
1) can they be fixed
2) can i buy musicman replacements
3) if i have to another brand to replace them which brand do you suggest
I hate the thoughts of it not being original so i would love to fix them if possible.

cheers in advance guys

David

Those tuners are still the same Schallers (labeled musicman) from 1976 until today.
I never had any issues the last 25 years.
Dump question: Do you insert the string into the tuner-hole?

Ah Bert lol yes I've been playing this bass since my mum bought it for me in 1983, it's not the first time I changed the strings 😂😂

Since you already need a half set, if replacement
is the solution, and sometimes a whole set can be
cheaper per tuner, you might look into Hip Shot's
tuners. I replaced the sad tuners on my compact
upright [Eminence] with Hip Shot, and I also use
Hip Shot on at least three bass guitars, including
one of my SRs [on Moses Graphite neck]. They're
terrific tuners, and their web site is very clear as
to which model is a drop-in for which popular hole
sizes or brands of bass.

Maybe [just maybe ?] EBMM will turn to Hip Shot,
which are USA-made vs the current Schallers from
Germany, to comply with a silly ruling from State
of California that disallows the "Made in SLO" mark
from EBMM headstocks, due to the German tuners.

I have no inside info ! Just guessing about whether
EBMM will adopt Hip Shot. But they're great tuners
and fully worthy of EBMM's fine reputation. Here's
hoping that BP reads this :)

The guys in customer care gave me the codes for the right tuners so just going to order a new set from strings and things. I do love the hipshot stuff to and i must stick on a drop D on to her at some point.....tho I've been saying that for 20 years lol
