Hey guys! I have a question:

My son, Eric, has an Axis Super Sport. He wants to put 11 gauge strings on it. Can he do that without making the slots bigger on the nut?

Here is a picture of Eric's BFR Redwood topped Axis (yeah, you're going to want to see this):

Thanks!

I went to NAMM with some friends. Here is a photo of us. We had a great time. I met A.J. and Brian Ball and they we really nice guys.
I am the first person on the left holding my bag like a woman's purse :D, the third person is Mario (mtrejo) from this forum, the fourth person is Eric (not my son and I can't remember his forum name) from this forum, and the sixth person is Mat (stratty316) from this forum.

An increase of one string size (gauge) *should* be ok without any major issues. Going up two sizes will almost definitely require some attention to the nut, the truss rod and the intonation. The Super Sport comes with .009-.042 so I would let a professional do this.

Thank you, guys.

I'll have to pick up a set and see. He uses 10's on it now and I can't figure out why he'd want to go thicker since he plays a lot of solos.

Nice guitar. Can't imagine running 11s on an Axis, but to each his own, I guess. :) I'd probably try a set and see, but I suspect he'll need to do some setup.

I've strung up most of my EBMMs with 11s for ... pretty much since the mid 90s. No problems and no modifications.
Which 11 set? Power Slinky? Or Beefy Slinky? I put a set of Power Slinkies on my JP6 for C standard tuning. Still a tad to rubber bandy. I'm considering throwing on a set of Beefy since the E, A and D string are a little thicker. Not sure if the nut will accomodate them or not.

I use the normal 11-48 set (EB Power Slinkies in the purple pack) in standard tuning.
