Hi. I just purchased a 5 string fretless stingray with piezo bridge and would like to know if tapewound strings will work ok with the piezo. I have searched but can not seem to find a definitive answer. Thanks in advance.

I general, plastic wound strings function very
poorly on Fishman saddles or any similar type.

You may hear of players successfully playing
them on piezo basses, but there are two very
different types. The under saddle "accoustic
type" with ribbon PU works great.

Thank you Golem. What strings are you liking for your various Fretless basses? I currently have La Bella tapewounds on my SR4FL.

Thank you Golem. What strings are you liking for

La Bella tapewounds on my SR4FL.

The LaBella plastic wound are one of my faves
for basses that allow plastic. I've even tried
the new "white" ones, which proved to be very
different from the black ... it's NOT just color !
Right now they're on an all-maple PJ. Almost
too rockin' for my taste, but only "almost" !

You ask about my VARIOUS FLs. Well "various"
is a huge understatement. Acoarst I like EBMM
cobalt flats, they're miraculous. Another magic
string is the GHS "Brite Flats" which are not flat
wound. They're compressed or ground down RW
strings, and sound like RW with a bit less growl,
meaning noticeably more growl than other flats.

There's a whole different flat from Thomastik if
you dig rich-but-mellow. It's kinda sorta like an
orchestral string in bass guitar lengths. I love it.
I've never played in loud aggressive bands. It's
definitely NOT for those who do.

Well ... I got more than 30 FL basses with very
many string types, so I gotta leave it at that :)

I have a set of TI Flats ready to go, I just can’t
decide which one of my Fretless basses to put
them on.

If you've got one thaz too hot, or too aggressive
or somehow needs "taming" ... or if you got one
thaz at the limit of its truss rod and you wanna
reduce the string tension at std tuning ... those
are clearly candidates for TIJFs.

They are also good at reducing fret klank on a
speed bump bass.
