I have one of the new SR5 Specials, single H and while playing around with the selector, realized that there is a tone combination between positions 1 and 2, and 2 and 3. Go to position 2, strike a not so you can hear the tone change and then move the selector towards the bridge. There will be a slight click and a volume increase. The end result is a really good slap tone and it’s different than the regular positions. I’m between 2 and neck, same thing, but it’s more of a nasally bridge type of tone that would be good for finger style funk / jazz bridge type of tones. I don’t remember this working on the previous single H with a selector, but it’s been awhile since I had a single H pickup. Does it work on the previous 9V electronics. I wonder if a 5-way switch could be wired to give those tones in a more repeatable manner?

You're prolly getting real SC tones
without engaging the dummy coil.
Even tho the dummy doesn't play
the strings, its inclusion in the mix
still affects the tone of the coil that
is playing the strings.

If the above is accurate, then MM
would avoid enabling the circuitry
you engaged, since a "naked" SC
is not noise canceling.

The single coil / dummy coil was dropped about ten years ago. It’s now series (I think) plus a filter.

Oops I did forget about that change. However, the
"proper" stops on the blade switch on the new MMs
would still be all humbucking ... ser/par/"fake SC",
all using both coils. So it's still very likely that the
"improper" [between] stops on the switch are just
truly one-coil-only, distinct in their tones but with
no hum canceling. To intentionally enable players
to do that would be "stepping off of the MM path" :)

Anywho sincere thanks for making me realize just
how old my gear is getting ! While it doesn't rank
as "vintage" [yet], all that stuff you see in my sig
lines is getting to be "classic" ... real classics, not
like new gear badged as "classic series".
