Hi,

headstock_reverse_joint_detail.jpg

I own a 2001 Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5H with serial number E24337.
My question is: Which kind of neck finish does it have?

  • Glossy or matte polyester finish; or
  • Tru-Oil and gunstock wax?
I added a red arrow where I think the dividing line might be between the reverse of the neck shaft and the headstock.

Thanks,

Sam

Looks to me like matte on rear of headstock, and oil/wax on back of neck. That's generally what it is when you see the dividing line. If it was matte poly on neck, it wouldn't change on back of headstock, or I've never seen that with EBMM anyway.

Yeah, that's definitely the oil and wax blend. The headstocks on EBMM guitars and basses are always finished up to the nut at least, which is where the oil/wax takes over. For a "natural" headstock they are sprayed with satin poly.
