Welcome to Day 12 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

Thanks for the kind words and comments on Saturday's NYNGD #2018-11!

Ahhh, firmly in the home stretch. Today's masterpiece is a December 2018 Axis BFR in Butterscotch. OK, I know what you're thinking -- "OK, cool. But it's just a stock EBMM from the latest (few weeks ago) BFR run. What's so special that you'd hold this until late in the NYNGD run?"

Answer: (A) We still have 9 guitars to go, so even though we're over the hump, we still have a long way to go!; (B) this guitar is awesome.

Simply awesome. First off, sure, a great flame top (although you all know I am a quilt man) in a beautiful Butterscotch Burst finish.

But the neck. Oofah. The neck is amazing. It's a stunning piece of roasted birdseye maple -- so it has the birdseye that we used to expect from non-roasted EBMM necks, but then it's roasted. And the fretboard is a flawless ebony with an absolutely perfect cream binding and lovely white pearl block inlays. I am super impressed by the workmanship on this fret job -- the frets end shy of the binding, so you can't see (or feel) the fret end. It really is a work of art and it's clear why these necks are on BFRs -- the additional work must be significant compared to a standard EBMM neck.

As if that wasn't all good enough to qualify for the home stretch, this guitar sounds REEEAAALLLY good. I just plugged it in while doing this writeup and didn't come up for air for 35 minutes. That good.

I cannot say how pleased I am with this guitar. You owe it to yourself to check on out at your local dealer. Or call Pete. Really. That good.

I'll be back tomorrow-ish with another NYNGD: New Year's New Guitar Day! Thanks for looking everyone!

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. :) The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

As of late I’ve been playing the AX series by Sterling. And I can tell you this body and neck has quickly jumped to my absolute favorite to play. Can only imagine the BFR series

Hey guys.

Sorry I am delayed on the next NYNGD. Just swamped at work so I am working like 18 hour days, which leaves no time for guitar photography if I am going to sleep. Standby, next guitar coming in a day or two. Hint: one-off Luke III.
