Welcome to Day 14 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

Thanks for the kind words and comments on NYNGD #2018-13!

Sorry (again) for the delay in getting to the next NYNGD. I have decided January is my busiest work month each year... so next year I MUST start photographing guitars in November so I can launch them on a good cadence in December... Anyhoo, let's get onto the guitar.

Today's NYNGD is a lovely Axis BFR with a gorgeous Bahama Blue Burst quilt top. Just lovely. So... this color is another mystery -- I couldn't quite capture the right color but this is close. I also resisted the urge to peg the contrast and show off the top... what you see here is true to the guitar. It's a subtle finish. Not too bright or in your face. Really classy. And, of course, that 12th fret BFR logo on a lovely flamey neck.

I found it recently on Reverb along with another sibling that I'll show you in a few days. When it arrived, I found the case was busted -- one latch was gone and the guitar was half in and half out of the case. And of course the springs and trem arm and other junk from the storage compartment was laying on the front of the guitar. Ugh. Thankfully no real damage. BUT WHEN YOU SHIP A GUITAR PUT ALL THAT CRAP IN A ZIPLOCK OR ENVELOPE! (and, while I'm ranting, don't de-tune the guitar when shipping -- if EBMM doesn't do that, why would you? So the new owner needs to start out with a setup because the neck is all wonky?).

Whew... Sorry, lost my cool. But seriously... And of course, the seller was a jerk and didn't bat an eyelash about the busted case. This case looks like it toured the world -- chained to the bumper of the bus...

Anyway... a petty cool guitar and it sounds pretty awesome. This guitar is a 2012, but for some reason it has more of a vintage EBMM EVH feeling than I'd expect from a relatively young guitar.

Off to NAMM tomorrow! But I'll be back in the next few days with another NYNGD: New Year's New Guitar Day! Thanks for looking everyone!

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. :) The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

Jeff, wow that sucks about the seller, luckily, I've never had a really bad experience. Your right that is a really nice one and man I really do love the old BFR logo and the smaller dot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have fun at NAMM, say "Hi to Pete and Nick for me.

Nice. I do love a blue Axis. :)

And I do hate people who don't disclose damage. I bought a guitar a couple years back that was perfectly described, but he forgot to mention that the case looked like it had been set on fire at some point. Grrr.

Gorgeous!
I agree completely about bagging the extras and NOT detuning solid bodies for shipping!
I hope you contacted Reverb about the damage. They are usually very responsive to that sort of thing, unlike a lot of sellers.
