I’ve been spending quite a bit of time with my/new Stingray HH, fine tuning the set up. It’s been a bit of s tricky one this one, quite a few buzzes to iron out but it’s getting there. I shimmed the neck today and while I was removing the neck I was quite shocked at how little thread there is going into the neck.
The easiest thing to do would be to remove one from one of my other StingRays for comparison but thought I’d ask here first if that’s normal or is there some design differences that I’ve over looked with the H and HH body’s.
The double H doesn’t seem to resonate/ring as clearly (unplugged) as the single H.
Is this because of the extra body routings ?
It’s my first HH so any information welcome.

Are the screws shorter for some reason or is the pocket deeper?

Cheers

The normal SR4 neck pocket is said to
be identical to the GnL 4-string pocket
so I swapped a Moses neck from a GnL
to a SR4 and cool, same pocket. FWIW
the SR4 receiving the neck is a HH. I'd
suggest you go right ahead comparing
H and HH screw lengths as you already
mentioned. It's a risk free 3 minute job
and will settle the matter.

For the picky picky:
Altho the SR and GnL pockets are the
same, the bolt pattern is not.

Thanks for reply.
I will do just that. To me there is not enough screw going into the neck, it stays in tune fine, but the fret buzz and lack of resonance all points (in my opinion) that the neck joint isn’t tight enough

What would your opinion on the unplugged resonance be ?
Less on the HH due to more body routing would be my guess but not sure ?

Just done a screw comparison and they are definitely genuine, same length and thickness as everyone else’s screws.
If the neck comes off it again I’ll give the holes a little plugging.
Set up is getting there, still buzzing but not as bad.
The weather here in the uk is up and down to say the least so not going to do anything to drastic just yet to set ups.
SR4’s are both fine, got a couple of gigs next weekend, one being a outdoor festival so will have to see who’s in best shape come Friday :p

Look at my basses in my signature. None would
allow the comparison you're asking about. Also,
body resonance is less obvious with FL basses
cuz you hear the neck resonance. With frets you
have much less neck resonance and so you might
hear mainly body resonance ... since the other
[nonbody] end of the string is riding a metal fret.

Polar opposites :p
It just doesn’t seem to have the same sparkle to it for lack of a better word. Dull almost.
Strings are new, barely played in (coated steels, use the same brand and gauge on everything).
Just keep fine tuning the set up I guess.
I’m happy with it anyways, like the Bongo it’s got very few miles on it
