What's up guys! I've been a member here for a little while and I think this would be my first post. A very cool first post but pics will have to wait until shipment arrives!!!

I'm very excited to receive an early pre-silhouette Music Man to say the least. As of today, I currently own 2 Silhouettes(includes NGD Binge that's on the way), 1 Silhouette Special, 2 Axis Sport MM90's, 1 Axis Super Sport Hardtail and a Reflex vintage trem. I've always been a player of the smaller scale guitfiddles, but when I purchased my first EBMM... The Silo Special... That was the end of that haha. Picked it up off Reverb for a steal. From that point on, its been Balls On The Walls!!!!!

What makes this special is UPS "LOST" my pride and joy Silo named Emerald! Actually...."The Ups Store"(separate entity but affiliates smdh) back in July. Luckily I declared a value and they stayed true to the fine print. I told my better half that I'm going to get a 86-87 6-bolt Silo with the funds. I was exaggerating haha, how often do you see those years...not often. Well, believe it or not, GC in Nashville had an '86 in there store. From the looks of it... It is all original with the wonderful checking all over the finish(Pre-Nitro days). I'm pretty certain it's all OG but can't wait to see her in person and take her apart!!!! Very excited to own some MM history. I'll post pics as soon as she arrives.

Thanks guys and too all the great threads in this forum. May be my first post but I've been a watching and researching for years. If you happened to view the guitar or have already seen her at GC, would love to hear your thoughts!?!?!

SHE'S ALL CLEANED UP!!! PICS BELOW!!!

** Update 8/30/19 **

After a cleaning, set-up and string change... She plays and sounds amazing!!! I couldn't believe and I didn't realize how much TLC was needed. After documenting dates and confirming all original, I gave her a well needed set-up. I believe I stated late in this thread, that she played like my buddies MIM Start... UMMM wtf was I thinking and couldn't be further from the truth... Not that MIM Strats are bad just not on this level of craftsmanship. This guitfiddle has to be one of my favorites now. The neck on her is stunning, has a bit of girth and plays better than any of my "newer" Silo's. Truly amazed how effortless it is to move up/down the fretboard. More updates to come...

* I contacted Music Man customer service with no luck of finding out any history of this beauty.

Mr. Sterling(BP)??? Could you maybe swing by this thread and give me a little history lesson? Bring back any memories? All in all, I'm happy and thankful to be able to play EBMM instruments. Thank you to all of the Ball Family!!!

- Nick

Hi Glenn and Thank you!!! I'm not sure tbh. Once she arrives, I'll have a better understanding whats in front of me... Price was more than reasonable and judging by other members pics, it should be all original lol. I'm shocked I found on Guitar Centers site

That rail piece is something else!!! Have you run the serial number thru the database?

Deals can be found on the GC site, you just have to hunt for them. Nice snag. when you get it add your pics to the Silo thread!!

Will do Glenn! I believe I ran the serial number at 3am the day of purchase. I was full of excitement and hadn't slept for a few days, due to my hectic work schedule haha. I'm to lazy to take 30 seconds now to input the info but if I recall, it was coming up as an EVH model....Shared serial# but with it having a leading zero. You better believe I'll take the time to respond to you Glenn and DrKev!!! Learned alot over the years through your posts, threads and feedback. Might look like a newbie on the forum layout, but I've been following for a long while. Thanks again fellas

EDIT: YUP, comes back as a July 21st 1994 Trans Red EVH

Thank you! Still sickens me that The UPS Store lost my pride and joy Silo, but everything seems to work itself out. Previous Silo was modern as could be...BK Aftermaths,db boost/sustainer, push/pull split...now I'm gonna have me a nice vintage voiced work of art(haven't verified pickups just yet) and I'm sure it'll bring me tons of joy!

There may be a small number of guitars that are not listed in the public database but Music Man may have details for it somewhere. Give them a call and ask for Music Man customer service.

This is awesome!

What's interesting is that this technically is not called a Silhouette. If I recall correctly, the original Silo was actually just called the "Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar." This is from that era. (Hence the no Silhouette name/logo on the headstock). Dig the rectangular 6-bolt neck plate. And that tailpiece! Damn. This is a special guitar. If only it had a trem!!!

Do you mind if I ask how much GC wanted for it? The uninitiated might thing "Ah, this is some old crusty small guitar. Slap $500 bucks on it and see if it sells!" What they don't know is they got HISTORY here. This is one of the coolest rare finds I have ever seen on this forum, and I've been here a while!

Congrats SilosRock!

I will def do that today! Thank you! She arrived yesterday... Haven't dug inside yet but we went for a drive down Blues Lane and passed Vinnie Moore on the way! Neck is unbelievably straight with a little fretwear on the "Cowboy Chords". For a guitfiddle of this age, truly no wear that I can see/feel/hear and stays in tune like a champ! Old school Schaller tuners and that roller bridge is quite the recipe. The checking is absolutely amazing!!! I would say it adds value and a really vintage vibe.

Sorry to hear you didn't purchase this piece of MM history🕵🎸 VH...wait a minute... Hell no I'm not😋😂. As for The Ups Store and the infamous "LOST" Silhouette...it NEVER even got scanned smdh. I ALWAYS package like a boss, so I really don't think it got damaged but the more I think about it, I'm certain it got lifted...it was fit in a well made Gibson box and had "Gibson Custom" all over the box lmao. Prob was hoping for '59 RI. Owner of the store swears it went on the truck🤔. My question is...Why never scanned then??? Lost label??? He replied "most likely"... Great! Not only did you "lose" my guitfiddle but you're admitting to having lazy ass employees that can't create another label hahahaha F$@K OFF!!!! It worked out though... Thanks for giving me the chance to owning a real Gem🤘😋🤘

That is truly unfortunate. I try to be careful about accusing people of anything without all the facts, but I would think that a large box that is just sitting around (with a "To" and "From" address on it, no less!) would eventually lead someone to contact at least one of the parties in either address. Gosh, it's not like we are talking about a small envelope or a tiny box here.
Oh well. At least you ended up with something cool! In the future though, please let me know if you are gonna buy a guitar out from under me! :) :) :) :)

Vuduhwy, thanks for being good sport. I'm not that active on here but have been making more of an effort! You guys/gals are great people! If I had known someone on this forum wanted to purchase it, to me it's off limits until other wise noted... Not my style no matter the GAS!

As for The Ups Store... The owner is a real piece of work. Condescending, unsympathetic and will always divert the blame on anyone but HIS STORE. I never once accused him or any of the employees of stealing, as I know mail gets lost every day. Im a very laid back dude and more than understanding... depending the circumstance(s). After submitting the claim and receiving no help from the store, I drew my own conclusions! I wont call out the location of store but through this journey, tons of research, and countless phone calls to UPS... I found that numerous people had similar stories dealing with the owner of store. That store has a rating of 2.3/5 stars smh. Wish I was aware prior to using them as the shipper. You live and you learn!!! Have a good bud!!!
