Strings Recommendation for New Bongo 5HH Stealth

Hi,

I got an almost new Bongo 5HH Stealth. The strings that came with it were round wound, but don't know the brand or how old they are, etc. Any recommendations on what strings to replace them with? I have heard good things about the Cobalt, but not sure if I should use flatwounds, roundwounds or something else on this bass. I play a little bit of all music styles, pop/rock, jazz, C&W.

I changed mine to EB Cobalt flats, but have recently put back on the original stock roundwound Slinky's. Both are great strings but if you want that extra growl I would use the stock roundwound Slinky's. What colour are the silks on your strings?, if they have no silks they could be the stock roundwound Slinky's.

Lots or people on here use flats on Bongos but personally I used Coated Steels, (105-50) lots of definition and growl in the notes !

Gauge wise EBMM’s general ship with 45-100 gauge Round wound (pink packet)

The cobalt flats used to be my go to. They really give you as close to a round wound sound as possible with flats.

Currently, I'm in love with the traditional Group 3 flats. They enhance the notes fundamental while still retaining harmonic clarity...if that makes any sense ;-)
They really make my Cutlass sing

Getting a cobalt flats on a Bongo 5H changed my life.

I honestly never played a more pleasing combination, like chocolate and peanut butter, it really goes together.

I'm going to have to try these I'm not crazy about the strings that shipped on the special (pink package slinkys) So I have some cobalt flats and the hybrid slinkys.

I've tried the Cobalt Rounds (don't tell anyone) and use the Cobalt Flats on just about everything now. They do punch you right in the gut, don't they?

I liked coated slinky's on my stealth bongo 5 HH, cobalts on my sterling 5HS and extra slinky on my stealth sterling 5 HH. Try them all, remember the bongo has a lot of juice.

My Bongo 5 HH sounds fantastic with the original Slinky's on it. I've said it before....most bass manufacturers install strings made by a string maker and the strings are okay. Some make their own strings and they sound lousy or blah. Ernie Ball makes their own strings and they sound wonderful and they are reasonably priced.

Right now I have a set of Cobalt rounds on my Bongo 6 HH. They sound great but I think I actually prefer the Slinky's on that bass.

I've been buying pre-mixed dark
chocolate peanut butter, unsalted,
and adding some coarse sea salt.
On bacon flavored Ritz Crackers it
does remind me of Cobalt Flats.

On a "bagel sliced", and toasted,
day old Plain Doughnut, it's very
close to Cobalt Flats on a Boingo
4Hp FL ;-)

It's best to use authentic FRIED
doughnuts, so the grease drips
onto the coils in the toaster oven
and adds a smokey flavor. Trust
me ... my brother's neighbor is a
Doctor !
