I currently have a Black Stingray 5, a USA Geddy Jazz Bass, a '75 P-Bass I bought when I was 14, and a G&L 2500 Fretless. I've kinda had my eye out for a nice Stingray 4. I found one online that caught my interest. It's a '98 blueburst that looks to be in great shape. What caught my eye was the white painted headstock. White headstock on a blue burst? I've seen matching headstocks but never a painted one that DOES'NT match.

Anyone got any info to share on that? Did the factory make em that way or did somebody swap the neck? MM white.jpg

Looks like a ~90s body (poplar with blueburst), flea bridge and a newer neck with compensated nut.
The logos from the 2005 Ltd Edition Buttercream were wine red (bit difficult to see in the pic).

Ok. Ran the s/n. It was a 94 fretless. Apparently somebody ditched the fretless neck and found a replacement. Mystery solved! Thanks for the input!
