I've tried two major music/guitar stores, and neither carried Reinforced Plain Strings (nor had they ever heard of them), which is what Ernie Ball recommends for the Petrucci model. What's up with that? Are they out of production?
Yes RPS is still in production. Apperently Guitar Center hasn't ordered any to date this year. Your local dealer may have some if some of the bigger stores don't have them...
