which combo amp?

I've got all different answers other places but you guys should have a better opinion for me because we play stingrays and ou know the sound I guess.. so anyway I'm a pick/fingers clash rock sounding bass player,, I have the boogie stuff mentioned in my sig but I need a "easy to move" combo amp that will have enough balls to play with 2-guitar players using marshall 1/2 stacks--. I'm sick of lugging my stuff around just for basic Jams..

I was thinking stay with boogie and get the 300watt 1X15 scout but I can't really turn it up in the store,,, I have tried the boogie venture 2X10 (600watts) but you couldn't feel the bass in the mix..


is there a favorite, light, and loud combo amp out there?

The Markbass combos pump a surprising amount of watts given their size

For example, the Mini CMD 121P weighs < 30 lbs, but has an output of 300 watts @ 8 ohms!

It's flexible in that you could also get extension cabs [for gigs] and run it @ 4 ohms to get 500 watts

A bit pricey, though.

But the weight : wattage ratio is indeed impressive

yeah those are pretty light,, 12" seems kinda small even though it has the volume you think it would work or maybe up to the 15" with the tweeter??

whats the prices on those? I like the 15" model with the tweeter (nice to have it if you need it for stage volume)

also does mark Bass shipp right away or does it take awile,,, and biggest of all are the reliable enough to get banged around in a small clubs backline shuffle???

If you can find one of the older Mesa Buster 200 1x15 combos definitely try it out.
They still are kind of on the heavy side, but not like dragging your powerhouse around, and the absolute closest thing to your 400+ sound.

Or since you already have that GK 400RB, why not just find a 1x15 cab to use for your jamming.

I can tell you as a Mesa guy, going to a Markbass is an extreme difference, I'm not fond of that sound. But heck give it a try.

I've been using a Yorkville Bassmaster 200 on stage with my Stingray and it sounds awesome. I did try the Mesa Walkabout Combo (300w) and it sounded great at home, but when I got to band rehearsal, believe it or not, it couldn't keep up with a loud band. I found that really odd since the Yorkville is rated 200W. Just my 2 cents...

Check out Euphonic Audio´s stuff. Very lightweight and great sounding. I would look in that direction if I were to get a new amp now.

keeping in mind I'm talking Canadian $$$, the 12" one I linked to above costs about $1000 here.

I get the impression from retailers that dealing with Markbass isn't the greatest, so I'd be reluctant to order one.

I obviously don't know how big your market is, but if you have a Markbass dealer near you, I'd take your bass and give it a try [along with whatever else they carry!]

I'm surprised to hear that, since Peter Murray (Markbass marketing dude) is always very helpful and informative when he posts here.

Don't get locked into the idea of a combo, as a lightweight head and cabinet will also be very portable and convenient. Both my heads weigh under 7lbs each and pump out 800 watts and 500 watts respectively @ 4 ohms. Team a lightweight head with a quality 2 x 10 cab and you have a very portable rig that can compete easily with Marshall 1/2 stacks and gorilla drummers.

But I did ask one authorized retailer here in Toronto when he might be getting the Minimark, and he replied in a sarcastic tone "I dunno, my calls never get returned."

Who knows... maybe it's because it him?

I e-mailed mark bass asking for prices for 5-diffeent things so we'll see if they get back.. walkabout scout was my original idea but not hearing any good response about them--> I did have the venture 600 watt 2X10 and even though it sounded great alone it got lost in the mix every time unless I played some high register stuff.

I do have that GK head so I guess I can get a cab and just use that for now...

Retailers in Canada do not order directly from Markbass, they get their gear from our Canadian distributor. So if there's a communication issue, it may be between the retailer and the distributor.
There were some delays in getting the Minimark into Canada, but it's here now.

I currently have an Ampeg SVT CL/810e, B-18-N, B-15r, Ashdown ABM 500 C210/410, SWR, Bose PAS and a couple of MarkBass amps. ONLY the MarkBass stuff goes to gigs. They sound great, they're light and I never have to worry about being heard...

I built my own combo (long story) - but at it's heart is a MarkBass Little Mark II. It is an incredible, unbelievable amp.

Everything you'll need is in the VLE and VPF controls and under 7 lbs! Wow...
