Looking for a new cab to pair with my Little Mark II, i already know i want an Avatar cab, but, the question is 2X12 or 4X10? I play progressive rock and use a Stingray HH 5, if that helps any.........

2 x 2x10 is another option for portability and versatility. Take one to rehearsal and small gigs, take both to bigger gigs.

really need to hear them to see which one you'll like.
12's usually have a darker timbre than the 10's.

10s are a bit tighter and faster than 12s - IMO I love my 12s , they have a bit more lows to them (most wouldn't notice) - 4x10 will have more surface area though so the comparrison is a bit off.
I would try 'em both before you buy 'em see what you like best and what produces the sound and levels you like and need.

I had both Avatar cabs - I sent the 2x12 back for the 4x10. I like my bass tight and I just prefer the 10s.
They're great cabinets - it's all up to what you're looking for in your tone.
After going through all four of the Avatar cabinet offerings (some in both 4ohm AND 8ohm), I settled for a 2x10 on a 4x10 which gives me complete flexibility, based on the size of the gig. The Avatar 2x10 on it's own is plenty punchy and lighter on the back when the larger stack isn't required.

I've got the B212 NEO cab (500w @ 4ohms), and it pairs very well with my Ampeg B2RE!
Nice, big tone with a bit of punch. It's the only piece of equipment I've held onto longer than 3 months (6/07 purchase) that still isn't in danger of being turned out.

Get a MarkBass 104 HR... very compact great sounding 4x10 with almost the same weight as a 2x10 or 2x12 cab.
B210 and B112
That's my current setup, Avatar B210 and B112, and it is amazing. I have the 2x10 stacked vertically on top of the 12. Takes up a very tiny footprint on stage, is very portable, has a great sound, and my rack is high enough for me to see it without bending over.
Of course, that's using the old B112 that is cube shaped. Highly recommended though.

OK, i went and played them today, and im going with the 4X10. The 4X10 had more clarity and isn't to much heavier than the 2X12. They both are great cabs though... hmmm......maybe ill get the 2X12 for my practice space..........

IMO, get a pair of 2x10's - or a 2x10 and a 1x15 - or a 3x10 and a 1x15 (my latest GAS). 4x10 is too heavy. 2x12 did not work for me - I bought a Ear Candy Bass Bomb 2x12 and it doesn't have as much low end as my pair of SWR 2x10 cabs. FYI: gregsproaudio.com just came out with a 3x10 that kicks a##. He's building me that + a 1x15. This will be quite the pair. I'll be able to do most gigs with the 3x10 by itself based on the way it sounded when I demo'd it last week. I have a Walter Woods Ultra (1200W @ 4 ohms/cigar box size). They are hard to get, but well worth the effort if you do find one. I also have a Carvin BX1200 (1200W @ 4 ohms) and not a bad amp for $599!

sweet,see if you can get the mark bass 4x10 in 4ohm !! you get a full 500 watts of clean power

I have 2 2x10s and a 1x15. I am covered for any big outdoor gig or the smallest club. Beats lugging around a 100lb 4x10.
Also, I like the sound I get out of 10's more than 12's. Regardless of what you buy, the building block approach is a good option IMO.

MarkBass 104 HR weights 56lb. This 4x10 weights less than one SWR 2x10, and sounds better than two of them!
