I've been working on a song with a couple friends, and over the past few weeks we finally took the time to go screw around in my buddy's recording studio. It's a simple pro-tools setup and goes to show that you don't need much to have a good time!

By the way, why are you using a scarf around the neck of your guitar ? For the tapping section (like Michael Angelo ?) ?

Most guitarist use it in the studio when recording lead parts or any part which doesn't require the first few low frets, it's used to prevent the buzzing and ringing of the strings you're not using, like when you accidentaly hit a string which you aren't supposed to (because its a difficult part or you're just clumsy like I am). This way it's only a short dead note, 'cause the string is muffled, and the other way it would ring.

I still use the AL for cleans, and the y2d for dirty rhythm. The leads were done on the JP again.
Changes - I didn't double-track the tapping like I did before, and since I forgot most of the harmony parts I had written, they didn't make the cut. I also didn't tune ;)

I was going to use the scarf/t-shirt to mute the Eadgb strings while doing the tapping part, but I changed my mind and did without. Of course, during the first take I had accidently turned the tone knob completely off so it sounded muted - I think that's the take heard in the vid.

I wound up not being able to record the leads while playing inside the isolation booth because there was too much feedback with the volume at 3. I ran a cable through a jack in the booth wall & then into the amp, which I then turned up to 8 so I could get some feedback when I wanted. This also made the amp wake up a bit, too. The shots of me with the JP in the booth were done while trying to get the levels/tone right.

Phatty, it was "stage beer" and goofing off. There was no Miller Van present at this party.

Regarding the Soldano - It's killer

Nice job. It sounds really good. The video was cool too, I like how you were able to sync it up in spots.
 
Cool song, great licks, good tone, killer guitars, jammin' with your buddies, and it looks like you guys are having fun - what could possibly be better than that?

When I've recorded in studios like that, I just stick the amp in the isolation booth and sit in the control room while I play.

Man, that studio has clean carpet!
