hey you guys, i am extremly interested in this whole 6 string bass thing. What bass do you think is the best 6 string bass, that is not 8,000 dollars. they should make a 6 string bongo.

Ken Smith makes some very nice six strings for under 4k. Save enough money for the orthopaedic surgery :) People think 6 string basses are cool because you can play a very wide range in one position. However, the tension on the left wrist can be dangerous. I played a six string bass in the 90s in a jazz group, for a couple of years, and gave myself a good case of tendinitis (and I have a very classical left hand tenique); it almost ended my playing days. Today I prefer 4 strings and if I wanna get crazy, my sr5 . Good luck.

The John Pet. Yamaha is sick too, but like everyone else said, their necks are tree trunks. I"ve never played a Modulus, but they do look nice.

I have a hard enough time accepting 5-string "bass" guitars...

Many of the first Bass Violins(way back in the day ;))had 5 strings. In fact the Symphonic Orchestra in Chicago played 5 strings up until the last decade or so. I'd say there's plenty of heritage to back the 5 string BASS guitar. :D

im also thinkin if i get the cash, or 4 or 5 years down the line i get a new bass, getting a bongo 5 and having a hipshot drop tuner put on it. that would be ballin'.

If you get a 5-er, why do you need a hipshot?

so cn hit hi c and low b at the same time, and not have to retune like crazy, same idea as having a 6 string
