7 string song, 6 string guitar!!!

Hey guys,

I need some help. There's a song that I want to learn, but it calls for a 7 string guitar (standard 7 string tuning - I think, E to B). Problem is I don't have a 7 string. Is there anything I can do to compensate for this with a 6 stringer?

You could play a power chord minus the root on the low sixth string. It won't sound as heavy though.Does this song make use of the high E string?

The song is Side of a Bullet by Nickelback, which is a tribute to Dimebag Darrell. I find it odd because I believe this is the first time they've done a song with a 7 string.

Brett, the only time the high E string is used is for the solo, which is actually a solo recorded by Dimebag before he died. The guys from Nickelback picked one of his back-cataloged solos that fit the song.

Jon if you pay half I'll definately buy a JP7

I don't think Nickelback plays 7-strings. It isn't the first time that they use a low key in a song. Most of their songs are in B, C and C#.
I think their guitars are downtuned and/ or droptuned.
You could buy a set of strings for a 7-string, and put only the B, E, A, D, G and B on your guitar.

Well like I said then you can play the fifth and the ocatve up from the root. With just one finger. Like I said though you won't have the low root so it won't sound as heavy. But it will sound ok because I am pretty sure the bass player can play that low note.

DML, I picked up the tab book for that album and it says right in it 7 string guitar tuned E(high) to B(low). It doesn't make sense to me cause like you said they've never had a song played with a 7string. They've used all the tunings that you mentioned. I'm going to try and find out if it was a misprint from the tab book company or if Nickelback really did use a 7string.

You have to bear in mind, this is the transcribers interpretation of the song. They are not always 100% accurate.
