9s to 10s

Hey all,

I am enjoying the EB forum and have yet another mystery for you all to solve!

I'm wanting to switch my rosewood fretboard sihl and maple neck/fretboard axis ss from 9s to 10s. My questions are as follows:

Should i worry too much about intonation?

Should i worry about action height?

Most importantly, what about neck relief? What is normal neck relief height and will an adjustment be probable in this situation?

Even if you don't change string gauge, you should still worry about those things. A bit like getting a wheel alignment on your car, you just don't do it once and forget about it.

That's not a huge change, so odds are you'll just have to tweek the neck relief (truss rod) and everything else will be ok. But- for best results it's worthwhile to learn how to set up your guitar properly; then you can always tweek it to your heart's delight.

i've gone from 9's to 11's on all three of my balls and they havent required any extra set up, weird eh? bends dont choke anywhere, all notes up on the high frets work fine, chords sound great everywhere, no probs!!! unlike my fenders, gee.....

I like 11's, though it gets hard some days in the mornings, but the tone is a lot stronger. I have a few guitars with 10's just to have a difference.

good idea, i strung up my axis with 11's, its great. nice to have the different feel on one guitar.

I immediately changed the 9's on both my Axii to 10's with very little adjustment required - mainly intonation of the Floyd on both. My next step is to move to 11's (like my G*bs*ns and F*nd*rs) and I anticipate very little adjustment at all.

What do EBMM's come with from the factory? I just got a Petrucci 7-string and threw some 9's on it. The guitar just is not happy with them. I loosed the truss rod all the way just to get a little neck relief, but it's not enough. The action had to be raised too and the strings feel way too slinky. I usually use 9's, but this guitar needs something thicker. I'm thinking about 10's, but I don't know if it'll be enough.
