Also, the Luke II has Schaller locking tuners. I seem to recall a slight change was made to the EMG SLVs to give them a bit more midrange.

I have both a Luke 1 and Luke 2.
Luke 2 featuers that a Luke 1 doesn't have.
has a Tone control.
has custom single coils
has a vintage trem (Luke 1 has a Floyd Rose)
has locking tuners.
More color opitions.
You can get a piezo on the Luke 2.
And the Luke 1's only came in 2 colors, a dark red or a dark blue.
I think thats all the differences.

The single coils on the Luke 1 were called the SA-57 and were custom for Luke (they stopped production on these when the Luke 2 came out with the SL-Vs) the ones on the Luke 2 are the SL-V and are also custom for Luke. The SL-V model has pole pieces under the epoxy the SA-57 did not. You might have seen pictures of Luke circa 1997 with a Luke Blue LUKE 2 that had EMGs with pole pieces (not to be confused with his current Sustainer setup) I am pretty sure those were the prototype SL-V or they might have been stock EMG SVs. To me the 57s are much Darker and Rounder definately scooped mids and ALOT more low end very much the sound on the Hendrix tune "Bold As Love", the SL-Vs are Thinner and Brighter more Snap and much Tighter sounding. Ironically MUCH more 57 strat sounding. I also find that there is a RADICAL difference in the sound between the Luke 1 and 2. The Luke 1 being much "Heavier" sounding. The necks feel slightly different to me as well. They seem to be a bit less of a V shape, flatter, on the Luke 1. Overall my Luke 1s have more sustain than the 2. I do LOVE the sound of both though. Truthfully My Luke 2 DOES stay in tune just as well as my Luke 1s.

They showed off the Luke prototype at the Open house. Purple with pole peices showing...and most unusual, a maple fretboard! 
But it was even cooler seeing Luke circa 2005.

Well, now that I look at the high res pic, the JP to the right is what the camera focused on. Man, do I need a SLR/manual digicam that I can set the f-stop on myself
Time to go shopping I guess 
(somebody buy the used Rad Red Bongo so I can pay for the camera!)

Also, what is the Luke II nut life expectancy if you use the tremolo often?
