Hey guys... most of you know about my current situation with my petrucci. Im sending it back to EB for a grounding problem and a nut problem. Im just a little worried about the whole process: sending it across the country after having it for less than a week, im afraid its not going to return the same from shipping. Jon told me that EB always uses UPS and that he coulnt remember the last time they had a problem with them damaging an EB guitar. Its just that its my new baby you know? parting with it is making me a bit uneasy.

While going through the process of getting it inusured and getting packeging materials for it... i began to wonder what would i do if it got stolen/damaged in the mail either going to or coming back from EB? I have already been pretty depressed about this whole situation. I never thought somthing like a problem with a guitar would put me into a slump but it really has.

I know, i sound like a snibbling little whine ass but i waited like 2 years to get the cash up for this plus the 3.5 months to get it in my hands and its just kind of a kick in the junk having to send it back. I mean ive been telling everyone in my band and musicians i know how great this guitar was going to be the whole time i was saving up, turning down other decent guitars ( but none that had the awesomeness of an EB Petrucci model) and now when i dont show up with it to play or jam i have to tell them im sending it back for repairs which makes me just look like a fool spending so much money after they told me i was nuts to spend 1500 bucks on a guitar.

These things arent EB's fault but im just explaining whats in my head. Not like im wanting you guys to get down on me for talking about the problems.. im just looking for some comfort about the whole process of sending it back and ill shut up haha. Just hear me out and give me something to keep my hope up haha. Please... yeah its really pathetic but thats what i think the forum is for, support amongst players you know?

I KNOW they say they are going to take care of it for me but im just a little untrusting of people in general after being screwed over a couple times. I dont think they would do it but its just my natural inclination to be afraid of somethign like this happening especially because im not of high economic status ( been on govt. assistance and living in governement house most of my life ) and i would have no means to get another... well not for another year or so of saving again and that sucked.

if anybody has had to send their guitar back to EB before, could you let me know how the experience went? I just need a little reassurance. thanks guys.

God bless,

Tony

Having not placed my order, but having read many a post attesting to the system @ EBMM, I think you should have no worries. Sometimes there's imperfections, nobody's perfect but at least it seems these guys try to correct the situation. Also, when you shipped it, you insured it as you'd mentioned, if it;s damaged by UPS just claim it and get your coin back. Then unfortuantely repeat process. At least you wouldn't be out your hard earned ducats.

No problem dude. i haven't been super excited about guitars themselves in a long time so I'm kinda living vicariously thru your posts about anticipating recieving your axe, I was kinda crushed when it didn't work right, but it doesn't deter my own gear lust as of late. I'm looking at placing an order at somepoint soon (just need to liquidate more stuff...agh.) for a Desert Gold Petrucci, probably barebones, sans painted stock or piezo (did you get the piezo?). Then after that maybe a Rolls Burgundy, or Sapphire Black, or a Pearl Redburst (I'm thinking of selling my Teal American Deluxe Tele). I only play one guitar of late as it is.

It's okay to be a bit bummed. But it's almost a guarantee that you'll get it back how you want it and turnaround will be done quickly.

They've had to tweak some of my balls for this reason or that and they've always come through.

puppiesonacid (how'd you come up with that name anyway),

Sorry to hear about the issues are having, but the good news is that this is an opportunity for me to shamelessly plug the thread on my Axis SS :D .

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1648

The last post in the thread tells of my very positive experience with EB repairs/customer service. Jon will treat you right.

BTW, it wasn't anywhere near the agony waiting the two weeks for it to be shipped out and back, as waiting for it to get here in the 1st place. I spoke with the folks at EB a couple of times and they were able to reassure/comfort me (i.e. talk me down).

When your friends hear your guitar, after you get it back, it won't take them long to change their tune.

Ok so i go down to my local pack and mail place to have them set me up to ship my petrucci in for repairs.... the shipping price with insurance for FedEx ground is 82$ and with UPS ground its 88$. These figures are a little off because they werent weighed with the packing materials on the scale so that means it will be HIGHER than this.

I live in Oswego Ny, like 30 mins away from syracuse... idk it just seems to me like this is too much. I was expecting 50 even 65 for shipping.. but almost 90-100 bucks? am i just overreacting here?

so im holding off till i figure this out. Im going to take it down to the post office and see what shipping quote they give me.

additionally, my petrucci was just sent in a box with no packing peanuts or anything. just the case in a fitted box. I dont think that guitars like these should be sent out like this regardless of how sturdy the case is. Mine is bent, i assume because of this kind of packeging...

When i do send my petrucci in for repairs, im making sure to send it with packing peanuts around the case. But if i do this will EB send it back to me in the packaging that i used or throw mine out and use thier method of packing ( which im beginning to wonder about that dent in my case as it may have been dropped during shipping and caused this ground/nut problem to exist in the first place. just wondering....

God bless,

If you pack it yourself in the original shipping box, and take it to the UPS shipping center yourself, it will cost you half that or less... Places like Mailboxes Etc. are thieves, plain and simple; they pretty much charge you twice what it costs to ship it yourself, and they don't add any real value to the process, since you can buy the packing materials and pack it up yourself for a song. I live in Canada, and I've shipped over 30 guitars to the US and received more than 20 from all over the US, and I've never, ever paid more than $40 shipping UPS ground.

It cost me like $25 to ship my guitar FedEx ground from Atlanta to SLO. FedEx operates out of Kinkos, so if there's one near you, you can ship from there. I think UPS was a few $ more. Like Jimi said, I'd go to a customer counter, not mail boxes etc.

Concerning the pkg., EB wouldn't ship the guitars like they do, if they didn't think it was safe. They ship a lot more guitars than we do. I have heard that peanuts don't do anything to protect the guitar, anyway. Taylor ships their guitars with just an insert at the headstock and heel ends of the case. I shipped my guitar back, just like they shipped it to me, in the case, in the original shipping box and tuned to pitch. I just had it insured for $1500, which added just a couple of dollars to the shipping cost.

I agree about packing your guitar yourself. I haven't shipped that many guitars but the ones I have I packed myself and the most it ever cost was 20 to 25 bucks. Ease your mind about the process you are going through. We all feel for you especially us here at the forum that have sorta shared this exprience of you ordering the guitar. Just remember that the problems are "fixable" and EB will stand with you on this. Even if there are further complications all will work out in the end. You have a warreny, insurance when you ship the guitar and lastly a company that won't let you down. Sometimes these things just happen and all you can do is buckle up and get ready for the ride. Don't let the joy of getting your guitar be tainted by all this. When you get it back it will all be worth it. Then you can enjoy something you've worked for!

I've shipped a ton of guitars due to Ebay. I've sent stuff to california, from NY for like $35 tops, granted I packed out myself. Most shipping prep places will 'f' you in the 'a' (as said by Howard S).

I know the feeling

I was in the same position

Went ahead and sent it in
It returned to me ahead of schedule good as new.

On thing , send only the guitar and case,
don't leave a spare pick, string set, strap, keys tp case, paperwork or anything else in with it .
NONE of that stuff will be returned

WHAT???? Please email me. If you had things missing, you should have contacted us when it happened rather than post it on the forum...We don't need your strings, picks, etc. Think about it. Again, please respond or call me at 1 866 823-2255 ext 237. I would like to hear exactly what happened.

I always pack myself and ship UPS from Office Depot. It's usually 18 or 20 bucks.

Of course, they screw you on those $10 bags of packing peanuts.

Hey, now that you mention it, I think I had a copy of the koran, 2 gold bars and 3 dirty magazines in my guitar case I sent eb that mysteriously disappeared.

:D :D :D

Please note the above statement is totally false and was meant purely as an attempt at humor on my part.
